PROGRAM MISSION STATEMENT The Ivy Tech Community College Hospitality Administration program mission is to provide excellence in education to residents of Indiana with professional, technical, transfer and lifelong education for successful hospitality careers, personal development and citizenship. Through its affordable and flexible quality educational services, the Ivy Tech Community College Hospitality Administration program strengthens Indiana's economy and enhances its cultural development with courses, certifications and degree options in: Culinary Arts, Culinology (blending of Food Science & Culinary Arts), Baking & Pastry Arts, and Hospitality Management with areas of emphasis in Restaurant Management, Hotel Management, and Event Management
Leads to an Introductory Sommelier Exam in HOSP 151, Certified Cicerone Exam in HOSP 152, Certified Sommelier Exam in HOSP 153. At the completion of the HOSP 251 class, the student will be prepared to take Level II certification offered by the International Wine Guild\; including, Certified Executive Chef of Wine Arts, Certified Executive Wine Sommelier, Certified Senior Wine Merchant, Certified Senior Wine Manager or Certified Senior Cellar Manager \(for the non-professional\). The Beverage Management Certification may also lead to employment and/or completion of Associates in Applied Science Degree.
Associate of Applied Science - Baking and Pastry Arts (60 credit hours = 4 semesters)
Restaurants, hotels, clubs, grocery stores, commercial, and independent shops are constantly seeking bakers and pastry chefs with the necessary skills and experience. This area of study is tailored to will prepare you to satisfy industry demands and American Culinary Federation Standards for Baker certification.
Associate of Applied Science - Culinary Arts (60 credit hours = 4 semesters)
Ivy Tech's educational kitchen enables us to train you for entry-level positions, such as first, second or saute cooks, sous chefs, and garde managers. The goal is to send you into the food service industry equipped with manual, theoretical and technical competence.
Associate of Applied Science (60 credit hours = 4 semesters)
Associate of Applied Science degree programs are two-year programs that prepare students for careers, career changes and career advancement. Students who need to take longer to complete the degree because of job or family obligations can take the program over a longer period of time. AAS programs may also prepare students for transfer to four-year institutions. These programs offer education in recognized technical areas and specialties with emphasis on analysis, synthesis and evaluation. The program content, which is approximately 30% general education and 70% professional/technical, provides depth and breadth in conceptual and professional/technical skills. The general education courses equip students with the problem solving, communications, scientific and mathematical skills to compete successfully in the job market. Professional/technical courses equip students with the skills to obtain employment and to advance in the workforce.
Associate of Science (60 credit hours = 4 semesters)
The Associate of Science degree prepares you for transfer to a university to pursue a baccalaureate degree. The curriculum offers a strong foundation in fundamental areas such as accounting, economics, and mathematics. The Associate of Science degree in Hospitality Administration transfers to several public institutions.

Outlook: The Central Indiana Hospitality industry is growing quickly as the Indianapolis Convention Center expansion brings larger conventions to Indianapolis. In the next five years, Indianapolis will add 25% more full-service hotels to accommodate the greater number of visitors projected in Indianapolis. The result of this growth will be an increase of Hospitality jobs at the rate of 18% between 2006 and 2016 according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Hospitality job growth is anticipated for cooks, chefs, bakers, pastry chefs, food service managers, restaurant managers, front desk agents, front office managers, hotel managers, meeting & event planners.
Salaries: Salary Range is $32,000-$45,000
