Motivational Interviewing
Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a client-centered, directive method for enhancing intrinsic motivation to change by exploring and resolving ambivalence. Originally developed for the treatment of problem drinkers, MI is now used with a wide range of concerns such as high-risk sexual behaviors, medication compliance, diabetes and heart disease management, smoking cessation, and mental health problems. MI has been the subject of over 70 scientific studies and its efficacy has led to MI being recognized as a “best practice” evidence-based treatment.
