This course will cover the necessary skills to be able to maintain, troubleshoot and install electrical heat. It will cover the many differing applications of electric heat and will allow for the learner to become confident in the service and installation of electric heat appliances. The components and controls of electric heat will be covered in detail as to allow the learner to think sequentially in the processes required for troubleshooting electric heat sources. Safety in electricity will be covered extensively.

The training will culminate in the awarding of the HVAC Excellence ® Electric Heat Certification upon the successful completion of the training and testing.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

Upon successful completion of this course the learner will be able to:

• Demonstrate safe practice and procedures.
• Describe the operation of electronic controls and systems associated with electric heat.
• Demonstrate and use the correct electrical instrument to check the electrical characteristics (potential, current, and resistance) in an electric heat system.
• Troubleshoot control voltage and line voltage for proper operation.
• Be able to cross reference BTUs capacity to needed KW when sizing change outs.
• Be able to determine FPM flow through electric heat furnace to determine temperature rise.

TRAINING DESCRIPTION AND MATERIALS

This instructor led course with reference text, focuses in part on the study and application of electricity and in particular its application to electric heating equipment. We will cover the integration of mechanical and electronic controls in electric heat technology. Testing of circuits and components and reading schematic and pictorial diagrams that will allow for the learner to gain confidence in his or her abilities in the troubleshooting of electric heat equipment. This course will focus on the learner and his or her ability to demonstrate competencies in the HVAC electric heat specialty, culminating with certification by HVAC Excellence.
