Tool and Die Design I

This course discusses the role of tool design in manufacturing. Participants will learn terminology, clamping and work-holding principles and techniques for documenting designs of dies used in industry. Design representations of different types of jigs, fixtures and gauges will also be covered.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

  • Plan the design and methods of manufacture for jigs and fixtures
  • Analyze and interpret detail and assembly drawings of jigs, templates, and fixtures
  • Apply detail part tolerances to the design and construction of jigs and fixtures
  • Select tooling and materials required for various applications of jigs and fixtures
  • Demonstrate design skills for a variety of tooling and related components
  • Identify specialty types and specific applications of jigs and fixtures
  • Apply basic concepts of physics-mechanics as related to tool design
  • Apply tolerances, limits, and fits to meet industry standard requirements
  • Read and interpret drawings, develop sketches, interpret and apply engineering specifications
  • Solve problems and make decisions using formal process methods
  • Solve mathematical problems related to design and fabrication of jigs and fixtures

TRAINING DESCRIPTION AND MATERIALS

This instructor led course with reference text, focuses in part on the design of tools, dies, and special guiding and holding devices that enable machines to manufacture a variety of products we use daily. This course will focus on the learner and the ability to demonstrate competencies in tool and die designing.

HOURS

Your Tools and Die Design I course is a 28-hour training activity, scheduled at your convenience for up to a maximum of 10 participants.  2.8 IACET approved CEU’s will be awarded upon successful completion of the course.  Pricing includes training administration, instruction, textbook & course materials, and an activity evaluation at the conclusion of training.
