Getting Stronger with Conflict Resolution Skills is the fourth of seven soft-skill classes in the HIRE (Help in Reaching Employment) job readiness program series. While part of the series, Getting Stronger with Conflict Resolution Skills can also be presented as a stand-alone class.

Course Objectives

• Define conflict using the word disagreement and list at least four common sources of conflict found in the workplace.

• List at least two behaviors within each of the following communication areas: verbal, non-verbal, listening and assertiveness.

• Given an example of a conflict situation with a difficult person, give at least one example of how their DISC style tends to react in such a situation and one example of how they might need to modify how their reaction.

• Given typical conflict situations from the workplace, role-play the use of at least two conflict resolution techniques and the use of a model for resolving conflict.

Training description and materials

This instructor-led interactive course focuses on identifying sources of workplace conflict and the utilization of effective conflict resolution skills. Participants will be introduced to a model for resolving conflict.  A role-play exercise, applying the various conflict resolution techniques and the conflict resolution model, is part of this dynamic class.  Other topics covered include effective communication, assertiveness, behavioral styles and conflict, and dealing with difficult people. A board game serves as a quick course summary activity. The class concludes with a journaling exercise and action plan development.

Hours and cost:

Your Getting Stronger with Conflict Resolution Skills course is a 7-hour training activity scheduled at your convenience for up to 12 participants. 0.7 IACET approved CEU’s will be awarded upon successful completion of the course.  Pricing includes training administration, instruction, class handouts and materials, and an activity evaluation at the conclusion of training.
