Harry Gaebler, a senior at Bloomington High School North, will compete at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in Los Angeles in May.

Gaebler is one of the top 20 students in the senior division, grades 9-12, who competed at a state science fair Saturday at Ivy Tech. His research project is called “A Mathematical Analysis of the Future Cosmic Star Formation Rate.”

“Harry did a great job,” Hoosier Science and Engineering Fair organizer and Ivy Tech professor Steve Arnold said Monday. “He’s got a very solid future in science ahead of him, that’s for sure. And he has a natural gift for science.”

More than 1,600 other high school students from around the world will compete alongside Gaebler at the international event.

Gaebler’s sponsoring teacher is John Portle, who teaches physics at North.
