Break gives some a chance to serve

Spring Break 2011 starts today.

Not officially, but you can bet some Indiana University students will leave Bloomington for islands and beaches a day or two earlier than their classes are scheduled to end.

We want to especially mention students from IU and Ivy Tech Community College who will perform community service during their breaks from campus. This has become more common in recent years, a welcome trend that should not go unnoticed.

For many college students, spring break continues to mean it’s time to party. We don’t begrudge them that option, as long as they are responsible about it. But for those who choose to spend their break helping others — your efforts are appreciated.
