Scholarships Specific to the Columbus Region

Scholarships for 2009-10 have already been awarded. The application for the 2010-11 Ivy Tech Foundation Scholarships will be available on this page in late March or early April, 2010.

American Society for Quality (ASQ) Scholarship

• Amount: Up to $500
• Awarded: Fall, Spring
• Established by American Society for Quality, South Central Indiana Section 0920, this scholarship is established to help students attain their educational goals.

• Eligibility:
• Seriousness of purpose
• First consideration given to students in technology programs

Custer Foundation Scholarship

• Amount: Varies
• Awarded: Fall, Spring, Summer
• Established in memory of Clarence E. and Inez R. Custer. This scholarship assists students whose financial needs cannot be met through traditional sources of financial aid.

• Eligibility:
• Degree declared student
• Completed one semester
• Minimum GPA of 2.50
• Financial need

Eloise T. Lewis Nursing Scholarship

• Amount: $500
• Awarded: Fall, Spring, Summer
• Established to provide financial assistance to students in either the LPN-RN/ASN or RN/ ASN programs.

• Eligibility:
• Must be pursuing a Technical Certificate in Practical Nursing or Associate of Science degree in Nursing
• Must have successfully completed one semester in program
• Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher
• Must demonstrate financial need
• Preference will be given to students who qualify as minority

Jackson County Scholarship

• Amount: Varies
• Awarded: Fall, Spring
• Established by Jackson County community members.

• Eligibility:
• Must be a Jackson County resident
• Minimum GPA of 2.5
• Financial need

Dr. Michael E. Pauszek Paramedic Science and EMT Program Scholarship

• Amount: Varies
• Awarded: Fall, Spring
• This scholarship is established to provide financial assistance to students in both the Paramedic Science and EMT programs.

• Eligibility:
• Must be pursuing a Technical Certificate in the EMT program OR
• Must be pursuing an associates degree in the Paramedic Science program
• Financial need
• Must show potential of future academic achievement on basis of past accomplishments, i.e., high school transcripts, GED scores, grades and academic history at Ivy Tech Community College
• Must reflect a seriousness of purpose as related to both academic and career goals in program area.

Sandy and Bill DeMichieli Nursing Scholarship

• Amount: Varies
• Awarded: Fall, Spring
• Established to provide new, first or second year students with paid tuition to assist in completing the two year programs in either Nursing (ASN) or Practical Nursing Programs.

• Eligibility:
• Must be pursuing a Technical Certificate in Practical Nursing or Associate of Science degree in Nursing
• Must demonstrate financial need
• Must reside in Franklin, Indiana
• Must maintain at least a 2.5 GPA

EmCon Technology Scholarship

• Amount: Varies
• Awarded: Fall, Spring, or Summer
• Established in February 2005, this scholarship supports students enrolled in the Technology Division’s programs.

• Eligibility:
• Degree declared in a Technology program
• Completed one semester of classes
• Minimum GPA of 2.5
• Financial need

Rose Barnes Memorial Scholarship

• Amount: Up to $500
• Awarded: Fall, Spring, or Summer
• Established by the Business Division faculty in memory of Business Division Chair, Professor Rose Barnes, who died Oct. 24, 2003, this endowed scholarship was supported by family and friends. Rose had been associated with Ivy Tech for over 30 years. She had great influence on studuents by setting high standards for their performance while offering encouragement and support. She set an example of professionalism for both students and coworkers. This scholarship continues her legacy to Ivy Tech Community College.

Marjorie & Orphie Bridges Scholarship

• Amount: Up to $700
• Awarded: Spring
• Administered by the Heritage Fund - the Community Foundation of Bartholomew County, this scholarship was established by the late Marjorie and Orphie Bridges to support vocational education students with preference given to participants in the Family Self-Sufficiency Program.

• Bartholomew County resident
• Financial need

Columbus Development Endowed Scholarship

• Amount: Varies
• Awarded: Fall, Spring, Summer
• An endowed scholarship fund established by the Regional Development Council to support Ivy Tech students in their pursuit of higher education and improved job skills.

• May be new or current student
• Financial need

Daetsch-Miller Memorial Fund

• Amount: Varies
• Awarded: Fall, Spring and/or Summer
• Established as a tribute and memorial to the donor’s parents and grandparents who valued education, this scholarship assists students whose financial needs cannot be met through traditional sources of financial aid.

Ivy Tech Board of Trustees Scholarship

• An endowed scholarship fund established by the Regional Board

• Eligibility:
• Enrolled in Office Administration, Computer Information Systems or Accounting
• Enrolled for six credit hours in declared program
• Degree declared
• Outstanding merit
• Completed special application available from Financial Aid Office

Futures Unlimited Fund

• Amount: Up to $1,000
• Awarded: Fall, Spring, Summer
• Established to help first-time Ivy Tech students achieve their education goals and gain skills needed to succeed in the workplace. Given to: 1) displaced homemakers; 2) displaced workers; 3) minorities; and 4) recipients of public assistance.

• Eligibility:
• First-time college student
• Financial need
• Qualify as displaced homemaker, displaced worker, minority, or recipient of public assistance changing lives

Edythe and Max Gosnell Memorial Scholarship for Nursing

• Amount: $300
• Awarded: Spring
• Administered by the Heritage Fund – the Community Foundation of Bartholomew County, the Edythe and Max Gosnell Memorial Scholarship was established by Patricia Gosnell Bush and R. Benjamin Bush in memory of Mrs. Bush’s parents. The scholarship is intended to help a Bartholomew County student enrolled in the Practical Nursing program or the Associate of Science in Nursing program.

• Resident of Bartholomew County
• Pursuing either Technical Certificate in Practical Nursing or Associate of Science in Nursing degree
• Successfully completed one semester in PNU or ASN program

• Preference given to female students

Irwin-Sweeney-Miller Foundation Scholarship

• Amount: Varies
• Awarded: Fall, Spring, Summer
• Established to provide financial support to students who are motivated to improve their personal situation by furthering their education at Ivy Tech. Preference given to Bartholomew County residents and participants in the Family Self-Sufficiency program or Workforce Development programs.

• Degree declared or “courses only” student
• Must exhibit determination to reaching potential
• Financial need
• Preference to Bartholomew County residents

National City Bank “NCB Scholars” Program

• Amount: Up to $500
• Awarded: Spring
• National City Bank established the “NCB Scholars” program to assist students of exceptional merit from communities where NCB has a banking presence. The award may be used only for costs related to the student’s education at Ivy Tech Community College. A thank you letter to the manager of the local NCB branch is expected.

• Enrolled in Office Administration, Computer Information Systems or Accounting
• Enrolled for six credit hours in declared program
• Degree declared

Elizabeth R. Nugent Practical Nursing Scholarship

• Amount: $500
• Awarded: Fall or Spring
• Established as a memorial to Elizabeth R. Nugent, a member of Columbus’ pioneer Ruddick-Crump family, this scholarship assists students pursuing professional study in the Practical Nursing Program.

• Pursuing Technical Certificate in Practical Nursing
• Minimum GPA of 2.5
• Financial need
• Completed one semester

Walter C. Nugent Memorial Scholarship

• Amount: $500
• Awarded: Fall or Spring
• This scholarship was established as a memorial to the late Walter C. Nugent, a Columbus businessman and philanthropist.

• Degree declared student
• Completed one semester
• Minimum GPA of 2.5
• Financial need

Pitt Scholarship Fund

• Amount: $500 per academic year
• Awarded: Fall, Spring
• Established as a memorial and tribute to the donors’ parents, Winifred Gladys Nagel Pitt and Frank Rylands Pitt, who valued education. The purpose is to make funds available to deserving students who need financial aid.

P.E.O. Sisterhood - BM Chapter Nursing Scholarship

• Amount: $500
• Awarded: Spring
• This scholarship is established to provide financial assistance to students in either the Practical Nursing or Associate of Science in Nursing Programs.

• Degree declared Practical Nursing or Associate of Science in Nursing student
• Completed one semester in the Practical Nursing or Associate of Science in Nursing Program
• Must be a Bartholomew County resident
• Satisfactory academic standing
• Financial need
• Preference given to female students

Photography Scholarship

• Amount: Varies
• Awarded: Spring
• Established to provide financial assistance and recognize a photography student with exceptional talent.

• Eligibility:
• Degree declared photography student
• Completed two semesters
• Minimum GPA of 2.50
• Financial need

Harvey S. Poling, Jr. Memorial Scholarship

• Amount: $1,000
• Awarded: $500 in Fall, $500 in Spring
• Established as a tribute to a veteran teacher and Ivy Tech Community College administrator, Harvey S. Poling, Jr. Candidates must be at least 28 years of age and have completed half of their program of study requirements. Awards are for tuition, fees, books, and expenses.

• Must be at least 28 years of age
• Completed half of program of study
• Minimum GPA of 3.00
• Financial need/FAFSA filed
• Must complete special application at Financial Aid Office.

Seymour Rotary Scholarship

• Amount: Varies
• Awarded: Spring
• Established by Seymour Rotary Club to provide financial assistance to Seymour area students in order that they may attain the educational goal being pursued.

• Degree or Technical Certificate declared student
• Completed one-half of degree or certificate requirements
• Reside in Seymour area (47274 zip code)
• Financial need
• Must submit names and phone numbers of three references

Students with Disabilities

• Amount: Up to $1,000
• Awarded: Spring for following Fall This scholarship fund was established by John Budd, an Ivy Tech graduate, to provide recognition and financial assistance to disabled students pursuing higher education.

• Eligibility:
• Completed one semester
• Degree declared, certificate, or “courses only” students
• Financial need considered but not required
• Enrolled in at least 6 credit hours
• Reflect a seriousness of purpose toward academic and career goals
• Must provide documentation of disability

Swain/Allred Endowed Scholarship Fund

• Amount: Up to $500
• Awarded: Fall, Spring and/or Summer Established by Franklin and Ella Swain as a tribute to their daughter, Susan Swain Allred, the scholarship provides financial assistance to deserving students.

Franklin and Ella Swain Endowed Scholarship Fund

Hazel Teegarden Memorial Scholarship

• This scholarship was established as a memorial to Hazel Teegarden, who valued education, to support students as they expand their education.

R. Kent Witte and Stacy Ford Walters Scholarship in Memory of Shannon Ford

• Established by the Zonta Club of Columbus to encourage a female student to achieve her educational and career goals.

Other Scholarship Opportunities

The following scholarships are funded by the Ivy Tech Foundation but are administered outside the traditional process. A separate application is required.

Douglas E. Blankenship Scholarship for Photography

• Amount: $500
• Awarded: Spring
• The scholarship was established by Laurey Blankenship, a graduate of the Graphic Design Program, as a memorial to her late husband Douglas E. Blankenship, a student with great talent in the Photography Program who died before being able to graduate. This scholarship is to help other photography students achieve the same dreams he had. Applicants must present work to a jury in January.

• Successfully completed one semester in Photography Program

Holmes Scholarship

• Amount: $500
• Awarded: Fall, Spring
• A statewide scholarship established by Robert C. Holmes, Vice-President/Treasurer of Ivy Tech Community College and Assistant Treasurer of the Ivy Tech Foundation, and his wife in memory of Mr. Holmes’ parents, Howard and Louise Holmes, who valued education and emphasized its importance for all individuals – especially those without a family history of attending college. Must provide reference from employer or faculty member. Special application on file in Financial Aid Office.

Kroot Y-Med Scholarship

• Amount: Varies
• Awarded: Fall, Spring, Summer
• Apply: Applications available at the McDowell Adult Education Center.
• Established to encourage students in the Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. Y-Med program to attend Ivy Tech Community College to pursue educational and career goals.

• Graduate of the BCSC Y-Med program in 2007 and thereafter
• Degree or Technical Certificate declared student
• Financial need
• Seriousness of purpose

Michael Price Scholarship

• Amount: $600
• Awarded: Spring
• This endowed scholarship was established in memory of Michael Price, a gifted Ivy Tech Graphic Design student, by the parents, family and friends of Michael. The scholarship enables students to complete their educational objectives and begin careers in graphic design. Only advanced students in Graphic Design are eligible to receive awards.

• Degree declared Graphic Design student
• Completed one-half of degree requirements
• Minimum GPA of 2.50
• Must have exceptional talent
• Financial need considered but not required
• Must present work before jury in January

Peter A. and Anna I. Massa Memorial Scholarship

• Amount: $750
• Awarded: Fall, Spring
• Apply: Applications available in room 203A
• Administered by Department Chair, Business Administration/ Accounting
• Established by two Ivy Tech employees as a memorial to Peter A. and Anna I. Massa, grandparents of one of the employees, to help students in Accounting or Business Administration programs achieve their dreams.

• Eligibility:
• Full-time Accounting or Business Administration student at Columbus campus
• Minimum GPA 3.0 with no grade lower than C
• Successfully completed minimum 24 program related credit hours when receive scholarship
• Satisfactorily completed ACC 102 (Accounting program) or BUS 105 or MKT 101 (Business Administration program)
• In addition to application, submit resume and brief statements describing need and future career goals

Nursing 2000 Scholarship

• Amount: Varies
• Awarded: Fall, Spring
• Apply: Applications available in the Financial Aid Office.
• Established by Nursing 2000, a not-for-profit organization, to promote and support careers in Registered Nursing. This scholarship is awarded to students from Ivy Tech Community College School of Nursing, Indiana University School of Nursing, Marian College Department of Nursing and the University of Indianapolis School of Nursing.

• Eligibility:
• Indiana resident
• Attendance at one of the affiliated Schools of Nursing in the eleven county area
• Full-time or part-time student in nursing major
• Competitive GPA
• Financial need is considered
• Enrolled in undergraduate or graduate program
• Demonstrates a commitment to work in nursing in the eleven county area upon graduation

Brown County Community Foundation, John A. and Cheryl J. Eyed Scholarship

• Amount: Up to $2,500
• Awarded: May for following year
• Deadline: Contact Brown County Community Foundation in December
• Established by John A. and Cheryl J. Eyed to provide financial support for Brown County students attending Ivy Tech Community College.
