MFG Day, is an initiative of the Manufacturing Institute—the workforce development and education affiliate of the National Association of Manufacturers. Held annually on the first Friday in October, MFG Day—Manufacturing Day—helps show the reality and future of modern manufacturing careers by encouraging companies and educational institutions to open their doors to students, parents, educators, and community leaders. As manufacturers seek to fill 4 million high-skill, high-tech and high-paying jobs over the next decade, MFG Day empowers manufacturers to come together to address their collective challenges and build excitement about manufacturing careers so they can help their communities and future generations thrive.

Is Your School Interested in Attending?

  • Local area schools are encouraged to bring students so they can expose them to in-demand careers from businesses in their area. Representatives from over 20 companies will be on hand to talk about their company, inform the students of the steps they should take to pursue a career in their field and provide them with tips on how to expedite their education.

    • Modern manufacturing is creating the future, and creators positively impact their community and the world.
    • Careers in modern manufacturing are well-paying, high tech and highly skilled.
    • Modern manufacturing careers encompass every interest and skillset—from science, research, design and development to production and the trades, to marketing, logistics, sales, and accounting. There is a place for everyone in manufacturing.

  • The job outlook for the manufacturing industry is bright. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS): 

    • Production occupations, including ones in the manufacturing industry, are expected to see an average of 933,000 job openings each year until 2032
    • Manufacturing was responsible for about 15% of the US economy’s output in 2022
    • Manufacturers in Indiana account for 26.6% of the total output in the state [state GDP], employing 17.51% of the workforce (2021) (Sources: U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis and the U.S. Census Bureau)
