Ivy Tech Community College, Richmond
Graduation
A graduation ceremony is held each May, and participating students are charged a fee to cover the cost of the ceremonial cap and gown.

You are eligible for graduation when requirements for your program of study have been fulfilled. When you begin your final semester prior to graduation, you must complete an application for graduation (download here). The application will be certified by your program advisor and forwarded to the Registrar's Office, where the appropriate diploma will be prepared. Graduating students may be asked to participate in outcomes assessments. To graduate with an associate in science degree, an associate in applied science degree, technical certificate or certificate, you must:

  • Attain a minimum grade point average of 2.00 in the required technical and general education courses;
  • Earn 15 credits as a regular student of Ivy Tech, rather than by test-out or other means of advanced placement;
  • Successfully complete the required number of credits;
  • Satisfy all financial obligations due the college;
  • Satisfy program accreditation standards that may have additional requirements.

Note:  Participation in the ceremony does not constitute degree completion.  This process is a separate action that occurs after you have finished your last term of coursework.   The student information system does not automatically recognize when a student has fulfilled degree requirements. The application for graduation initiates the diploma process.
