FALL PROTECTION

In 2004, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that 1224 construction workers died on the job with 36 percent of those fatalities resulting from falls.  Events surrounding these types of accidents often involve a number of factors, including unstable working surfaces, misuse of fall protection equipment and human error. This class aids in recognizing and evaluating hazards and possible solutions in the workplace.

INTRODUCTION THE WORKPLACE AND SAFETY
(Course ID: SAFE IWS1)
Introduces basic safety instruction including OSHA requirements and other concerns (MSDS, confined space, lock out/tag out, zero energy state, hazardous materials, storage of flammable materials, storage of fuel gas and high pressure gas cylinders, portable powered tool safety, hand tool safety, record keeping, training, employer enforcement of safety regulations, right to know, etc.).  Includes an introduction to measuring instruments, hand tools, portable powered tools, and procedures that are pertinent to the mix of specialties on the campus.  Lab projects will be designed to reinforce safety procedures and develop competency levels in using the measuring instruments, hand tools and portable powered tools introduced in the course.

NOISE AND HEARING CONSERVATION
(Course ID: SAFE NOI1)
On or off the job, this course gives understanding of the affects of noise and your ability to hear.

POWERED INDUSTRIAL TRUCKS
(Course ID: SAFE TRU1)
Providing information for safe operation of powered industrial trucks, this course precedes the on-the-job evaluation necessary to comply with 29CFR 1910.178(l).
