Assessment
We need to determine the level of your reading, writing and math skills in order to place you in the appropriate classes. We can measure this in several different ways, including previous college credit you've earned, SAT/PSAT or ACT scores, high school GPA or through an assessment tool called Accuplacer.
You can complete assessment in any of the following four ways:
 | Have you already taken the ACT, SAT or PSAT? Generally scores of 460 or higher on each section of the SAT, 46 or higher on each section of the PSAT, or 17 in English, 18 in reading, 18 in math or higher on each section of the ACT can be accepted for your assessment if they were completed within the last four years.  | Generally, a high school cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale will meet the assessment requirement if this was your final GPA at the time of graduation and if you completed high school within the last two years. You must have graduated with a Core 40, Technical Honors, or Academic Honors diploma or equivalent. Click here to find out where to submit your high school transcripts. |
 | Have you already earned college credits or an Associate degree at another college or university? If so, submit your college transcripts to the Registrar's Office. General education courses taken at another regionally accredited institution, with a grade of “C-“ or higher, may be used to waive the ACCUPLACER exam. |
 | If you do not have previous college credit, an ACT, SAT or PSAT score, or a cumulative high school GPA that satisfies the assessment requirement, you will need to take the ACCUPLACER skills assessment. Your scores on the Accuplacer determine which writing, reading and math classes you'll take first. You must meet certain scores to place into college-level classes. Learn more about Accuplacer. Central Indiana (Indianapolis)
ACCUPLACER is administered at the North Meridian, Lawrence, Avon, Carmel and Shelbyville campuses. Students must bring a photo ID with them to the Assessment Center. Children are not permitted in the Assessment Center labs. No food or beverage is permitted in the testing area; cells phones and pagers must be turned off. Prospective students with a documented disability should contact Disability Support Services at 921-4982 for accommodations on the assessment.

Accuplacer assessments are scheduled after a student has completed the Application for Admission and the New Student Orientation. It is only used for initial course placement. Accuplacer assessments can be completed at the Ivy Tech Columbus or Franklin campuses or at Community Learning Centers in Greensburg, Nashville, North Vernon, or Seymour.

WARSAW
Accuplacer testing is done at the campus library Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 6:00 pm and Saturday 9:00 am to 11:00 am. Appointments are not necessary at this campus, however it is recommended that students arrive at the campus library two hours before closing times to allow enough time for the assessment. ACCUPLACER testing is offered by appointment at the Richmond, Connersville or Rushville locations. The test takes between 2 -3 hours to complete all three sections, which are Reading, Sentence Skills and Math (Pre Algebra & Algebra). However, the test is not timed.
