Construction Technology

The construction industry has placed new demands on the building industry. There is a need for employees skilled in estimating, writing specifications for building plans, layout and assembly of residential steel framing, and building restoration and renovation.

This program will give you the knowledge and skills necessary for job success either as a self-employed business person, or as an employee in home improvement centers, plumbing and electrical contractor, carpentry trades, or many other phases within the construction industry.

CERTIFICATE: CONSTRUCTION TECHNICIAN
(21 credits)

Short-term certificates are sequences of technical and professional courses that are industry focused and designed for workforce preparation. They provide access to targeted, short-term training in a discipline, and completers may sit for specific certification exams. Courses in certificate programs also apply toward technical certificates and associate degree programs in the subject area. Program and Employment Information.

Completion of the Construction Technician Certificate leads to an Indiana County Contractor License, employment, and/or completion of an associate degree.

   
   

TECHNICAL CERTIFICATE IN CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGY
(Minimum of 31 credit hours)

The Technical Certificate in Construction Technology can be earned on the way to acquiring the Associate of Applied Science degree. Many available jobs require advanced education beyond the high school diploma. Technical Certificate programs provide education in conceptual and technical skills for specific occupations. The program content is designed to develop competency in the comprehension of general and technical skills. ASSOCIATE OF APPLIED SCIENCE IN CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGY
(Minimum of 60 credit hours)

The Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in Construction Technology will give you the knowledge and skills for career entry or advancement in a current job. Associate of Applied Science degree programs are two-year programs that prepare students for careers, career changes and career advancement. Students who need to take longer to complete the degree because of job or family obligations can take the program over a longer period of time. AAS programs may also prepare students for transfer to four-year institutions. These programs offer education in recognized technical areas and specialties with emphasis on analysis, synthesis and evaluation. The program content, which is approximately 30% general education and 70% professional/technical, provides depth and breadth in conceptual and professional/technical skills. The general education courses equip students with the problem solving, communications, scientific and mathematical skills to compete successfully in the job market. Professional/technical courses equip students with the skills to obtain employment and to advance in the workforce.

Contruction Technology Student Academic Plan for 2011-12

Upon graduation from the School of Technology, Construction Technology students will be able to:
  • Demonstrate competency in communication skills, to work and act in a professional manner by successful completion of COMM 101 or COMM 102.
  • Demonstrate ability in using employers own computer system for Excel and Word documents and e-mail, through successful passing of INDT100 Computer Fundamentals of Technology.
  • Demonstrate ability to properly use hand and power tools.
  • Demonstrate ability to troubleshoot ideas, understand industry language, estimate and and interpret blueprints, codes and specifications upon successful completion of the CONT 279 Construction Technology Capstone Course. This course along with the CAPP test will review and assess every course that is in the student academic plan to assess students' overal knowledge upon completion of the two year degree.
