Graduation

The following six degrees/certificates are awarded by the College to students who meet graduation requirements.

  1. Associate of Arts (AA)
  2. Associate of Fine Arts (AFA)
  3. Associate of Science (AS)
  4. Associate of Applied Science (AAS)
  5. Technical Certificate (TC)
  6. Certificate (CT)

To graduate with one of the above degrees or certificates, the student must:

  1. Attain a minimum grade point average of 2.00 in the required technical and general education courses;
  2. Completion of at least 15 degree credits in the curriculum as a regular student of Ivy Tech, and not through test-out or other means of advanced placement;
  3. Successfully complete the required number of credits;
  4. Satisfy all financial obligations due the College; and
  5. Satisfy program accreditation standards that may have additional requirements.

Each student entering the final semester prior to graduation must complete an Application for Graduation. You can apply online through Campus Connect by following these easy steps:

  1. Log into Campus Connect
  2. Under My Ivy Tech click on Apply to Graduate
  3. Follow the instructions on the screen to select your curriculum, name to appear on the diploma, mailing address and whether you will be attending the commencement ceremony

The College recognizes three levels of honors for graduating students, based upon cumulative Grade Point Average:

  1. 4.00 Summa Cum Laude
  2. 3.75-3.99 Magna Cum Laude
  3. 3.50-3.74 Cum Laude

Calculation of academic honors, if listed for publication in the graduation ceremony program, will be as of the semester prior to graduation. Honors recorded on the transcript will include the graduation term in the calculation.

Do you plan to attend the Commencement Ceremony?

Spring 2015 and Summer 2015 anticipated graduates will attend the Spring 2015 Commencement Ceremony.   For those desiring to participate in Spring Commencement, the request must be submitted by March 15, 2015 for the graduate's name to appear in the Commencement program.

Students will find the Graduation Request Form at Campus Connect by clicking on "APPLY TO GRADUATE."  If for some reason you are unable to submit the online form, paper Graduation Request Forms are available at the Express Enrollment Office at North Meridian Center and the Office of the Registrar at Lawrence.

All Fall 2014, Spring 2015, and Summer 2015 graduates should fill out the (on-line) Graduation Request to participate in their respective Commencement Ceremony.

COMMENCEMENT DAY - Spring Commencement

Graduates should arrive at Hall H in the Indiana Convention Center no later than 8:45 for the morning ceremony and 1:45 for the afternoon ceremony to line up for the processional. Graduates will proceed to the Office of the Registrar's table (located in Hall H) in order to receive their name card and honor cords (if applicable). The name cards will direct students where to line up for the processional.

Be sure to leave all valuables, including purses and coats, with friends or family prior to the line-up.  Ivy Tech is not responsible for items left in the Indiana Convention Center.


Diplomas

Students do not need to pick up diplomas. Diplomas are mailed to students after grades are reported to the Registrar's Office, and Program Chairs certify that students meet requirements for graduation.  This process normally takes a minimum of eight to ten weeks after the end of the semester.

If you have any questions regarding your program completion, it is highly recommended that you contact your Program Chair now to assure requirements have been met during your final term of enrollment.


The Ceremony

The Commencement Ceremony lasts approximately 2 1/2 hours. Graduates' names will be announced as students cross the stage to be recognized.

Each graduate will receive 8 guest passes/tickets for family and friends to attend. All guests must have a pass in order to attend the ceremony and this includes children who may be sitting on an adult's lap. 

The passes/tickets will be available TBA at the Office of the Registrar at the Lawrence Campus and the Express Enrollment Center at the North Meridian Center Campus.  Student will be notified by Ivy Tech email when the passes/tickets will be available for pickup.

The tickets can only be picked up by the graduate and they will need to bring a photo ID to receive them.

The passes will need to be picked up by May 2, 2015.  After that date, students will need to contact indy-graduation@ivytech.edu to arrange pickup.

No additional guest passes will be given at this time due to maximum capacity limits and fire codes of the facility.

Photography

GradImages® is honored to be a part of your graduation ceremony. We will be photographing every student as he/she is individually recognized. Your proofs will be available after the ceremony. Ordering Caps, Gowns, and Announcements

Order caps, gowns, and announcements at the Follett Bookstore at the North Meridian or Fairbanks Center. Sales begin on Monday, February 2, 2015.  Caps/gowns will be available for pick up starting early April and graduates will be contacted when they are ready for pick up.   A limited number of caps and gowns will be available for last-minute purchase until Wednesday, May 6, 2015 for those who did not order in advance. Supplies are not guaranteed.

Appropriate Attire

Women should wear a dress, skirt or slacks outfit and low-heeled, dark shoes. Men should wear slacks, shirt, tie, and dark shoes. Please iron or steam your robe before arriving for the ceremony.

The Ivy Tech Columbus/Franklin Commencement will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Franklin Middle School. This is a time to celebrate your accomplishments with your family and friends; we hope you will participate. To learn more please download the commencement ceremony details.

If you plan to graduate at the end of Fall 2015, Spring 2015, or Summer semester 2015, don't forget to submit a Graduation Application.  To submit an Application for Graduation, login to Campus Connect and select "Apply to Graduate" located under Student Links.  If you wish to attend the graduation ceremony and have your name printed in the program, all applications must be submitted by March 1, 2015.

Honor Graduates

Only honor students who participate in the graduation ceremony will receive Ivy Tech honor cords. Cords are provided at rehearsal and will be available in the students robing area prior to the ceremony.

Note: Graduating with honor cords is based on your Fall 2014 GPA, regardless of when the degree requirements are met.

Notice to members of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK): YOU MAY WEAR ONLY ONE ITEM OF HONOR RECOGNITION DURING GRADUATION. You may choose to wear PTK honors cords or the PTK honors stole or Ivy Tech honor cords. You may not wear the PTK gold tassels. Please check with your PTK advisor for information regarding Phi Theta Kappa honor apparel.

The 2015 graduation ceremony will be held on Sunday, May 10, 2015 at Purdue University, Elliott Hall. The ceremony will begin at 2 p.m. (EST).

Before Commencement

Applying For Graduation

All graduating students must apply for graduation.

Spring 2015 graduates must apply before May 9, 2015. If you wish to have your name appear in the commencement program for the ceremony on May 8, 2015 you must apply for graduation by Friday, April 3, 2015. Summer 2015 graduates must apply before August 1, 2015. To apply:

  1. Log in to campus connect (cc.ivytech.edu)
  2. Click “Apply to Graduate” under My Ivy Tech
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to select your curriculum, name to appear on the diploma, mailing address, ceremony attendance preferences

If you are not able to apply for graduation, please contact your advisor for assistance.

Attire

Participants are required to wear a black graduation cap and gown. To purchase your cap and gown, attend a Countdown to Graduation event or visit the bookstore. The cost is $38.52 including tax. You must purchase your cap and gown by Friday, May 1 at 5:00 pm. No graduation apparel will be sold at the ceremony.

Wear lightweight, comfortable business casual clothing under your cap and gown. You will be standing for long periods of time and navigating stairs. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended.

Honor cords, stoles and sashes

Students with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher as of the Fall 2014 semester are eligible to wear honor cords. Honor cords will be given to eligible students at the Honors Convocation (Dates TBD).

Phi Theta Kappa members can purchase their PTK cords and stole online at www.recognitions.ptk.org. You will need your PTK member ID found on your membership card.

Custom graduation announcements may be purchased online at www.herfjones.com/college/graduation. Please see the bookstore for more information.

Day of Commencement

GRADUATES

  1. There is no rehearsal for graduation.
  2. Parking is free and available in the parking lot to the South of the Joyce Center. If you are being dropped off, drop off at Gate 10.
  3. Arrive dressed in your cap and gown with your tassel to the right. Dressing rooms are not available.
  4. There is no place to keep personal belongings during the ceremony. Please leave purses and other personal items with a friend or family member during the ceremony, or leave the items at home.
  5. Head to the registration table to check in and get your name card.
  6. Line up by your division and alphabetically (your name card will show your division and place in line). Keep your name card with you.
  7. A floor marshal will lead you in to the ceremony and direct you when it is time to go to the stage. Your entire row should stand at the same time.
  8. Follow all instructions from the floor marshal.
  9. Give you name card to the reader then cross the stage to receive your diploma cover and have your picture taken.
  10. Return to your seat and be seated.

Ceremony etiquette

  • The ceremony starts promptly at 6:00 pm.
  • Turn your cell phone off or to silent.
  • Graduates must remain on the ceremony floor the entire length of the ceremony. Do not leave after your name is called.
  • Be respectful of others. Do not obstruct the view or sound for anyone else.

Receiving your diploma

At the commencement ceremony, you will receive your diploma COVER. Diplomas are mailed out after final grades are posted and your degree has been awarded.

  • Spring graduates will receive their diplomas in the mail by late June.
  • Summer graduates will receive their diplomas in the mail by late September.

Photography

The commencement photographer is Terry Trethewey with Images Unlimited LLC.

Personal photography and videography is encouraged. There are no restrictions on flash photography before, during or after the ceremony.

FAMILIES AND GUESTS

Graduates and guests are asked to stay for the entire ceremony and be respectful as each graduate’s name is read.

  • Parking is free and available in the parking lot to the South of the Joyce Center.
  • There is no admission fee.
  • Programs will be available.
  • There is no limit to the number of guests a student can invite.
  • Turn your phone off or put on silent.
  • Do not obstruct view or sound for anyone else.

The ceremony will start promptly at 6:00 pm. Please make sure you are seated in time to see the graduates’ processional. Please see an usher upon arrival for assistance if needed.

FACULTY/STAFF

If you own a graduation gown and hood, you may wear it to the commencement ceremony. If you do not have a gown and hood, you can rent your regalia from the bookstore by Monday, March 30. Items need to be paid for at the time of order. Rentals should be returned immediately after the ceremony.

May, 12, 2015 at 6:30 p.m.

Honors recognition at the commencement ceremony is based on the student's cumulative GPA from the Fall semester. Actual honors recognition will be recorded on the student's academic transcript posted with the degree earned.

Commencement will be held Friday, May 8, 2015, at the Ford Center. The ceremony begins at 7 p.m., but graduates MUST report to the Ford Center by 6 p.m. Please remember to wear comfortable, but appropriate, shoes (no flip flops please) because we’ll be standing prior to beginning the ceremony.

Students receiving academic honors will be notified 2 weeks prior to the ceremony to pick up their honors cord in the Registrar’s Office. Academic honors for the ceremony are awarded to students earning an overall GPA of 3.5 or higher at the end of the fall 2014 semester.
