Graduation

The following six degrees/certificates are awarded by the College to students who meet graduation requirements.

  1. Associate of Arts (AA)
  2. Associate of Fine Arts (AFA)
  3. Associate of Science (AS)
  4. Associate of Applied Science (AAS)
  5. Technical Certificate (TC)
  6. Certificate (CT)

To graduate with one of the above degrees or certificates, the student must:

  1. Attain a minimum grade point average of 2.00 in the required technical and general education courses;
  2. Completion of at least 15 degree credits in the curriculum as a regular student of Ivy Tech, and not through test-out or other means of advanced placement;
  3. Successfully complete the required number of credits;
  4. Satisfy all financial obligations due the College; and
  5. Satisfy program accreditation standards that may have additional requirements.

Each student entering the final semester prior to graduation must complete an Application for Graduation. You can apply online through Campus Connect by following these easy steps:

  1. Log into Campus Connect
  2. Under My Ivy Tech click on Apply to Graduate
  3. Follow the instructions on the screen to select your curriculum, name to appear on the diploma, mailing address and whether you will be attending the commencement ceremony

The College recognizes three levels of honors for graduating students, based upon cumulative Grade Point Average:

  1. 4.00 Summa Cum Laude
  2. 3.75-3.99 Magna Cum Laude
  3. 3.50-3.74 Cum Laude

Calculation of academic honors, if listed for publication in the graduation ceremony program, will be as of the semester prior to graduation. Honors recorded on the transcript will include the graduation term in the calculation.

Do you plan to attend the Commencement Ceremony?

Fall 2014 anticipated graduates will attend the Winter 2014 Commencement Ceremony.  For those desiring to participate in Winter Commencement, the request must be submitted by November 1, 2014 for the graduate's name to appear in the Commencement program.

Students will find the Graduation Request Form at Campus Connect by clicking on "APPLY TO GRADUATE."  If for some reason you are unable to submit the online form, paper Graduation Request Forms are available at the Express Enrollment Office at North Meridian Center and the Office of the Registrar at Lawrence.

All Fall 2014, Spring 2015, and Summer 2015 graduates should fill out the (on-line) Graduation Request to participate in their respective Commencement Ceremony.


COMMENCEMENT DAY

Winter Commencement

Graduates should arrive at the Pike Performing Arts Center no later than 8:45 a.m. to line up for the processional.  Guests and students should use the North Entry #5 to enter the building.  Signs will indicate the location of your school and program.

Be sure to leave all valuables, including purses and coats, with friends or family prior to the line-up.  Ivy Tech is not responsible for items left in the Pike Performing Arts Center.


Diplomas

Students do not need to pick up diplomas. Diplomas are mailed to students after grades are reported to the Registrar's Office, and Program Chairs certify that students meet requirements for graduation.  This process normally takes a minimum of eight to ten weeks after the end of the semester.

If you have any questions regarding your program completion, it is highly recommended that you contact your Program Chair now to assure requirements have been met during your final term of enrollment.


The Ceremony

The Commencement Ceremony lasts approximately 2 1/2 hours. Graduates' names will be announced as students cross the stage to be recognized.

Each graduate will receive TBA guest passes/tickets for family and friends to attend. All guests must have a pass/ticket in order to attend the ceremony and this includes children who may be sitting on an adult's lap. 

The passes/tickets will be available TBA at the Office of the Registrar at North Meridian Center and Lawrence campuses  These passes/tickets will need to be picked up by December 6, 2014. After that date, students will need to contact indy-graduation@ivytech.edu to arrange pickup.

No additional guest passes will be given at this time due to maximum capacity limits and fire codes of the facility.

Photography

GradImages® is honored to be a part of your graduation ceremony. We will be photographing every student as he/she is individually recognized. Your proofs will be available after the ceremony. Ordering Caps, Gowns, and Announcements

Order caps, gowns, and announcements at the Follett Bookstore at the North Meridian or Fairbanks Center. Sales begin on September 15, 2014.  Caps/gowns will be available for pick up starting early November and graduates will be contacted when they are ready for pick up.   A limited number of caps and gowns will be available for last-minute purchase until December 14, 2014 for those who did not order in advance. Supplies are not guaranteed.

Appropriate Attire

Women should wear a dress or skirt outfit and low-heeled, dark shoes. Men should wear slacks, shirt, tie, and dark shoes. Please iron or steam your robe before arriving for the ceremony.

Columbus

The Ivy Tech Columbus/Franklin Commencement will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Franklin Middle School. This is a time to celebrate your accomplishments with your family and friends; we hope you will participate. To learn more please download the commencement ceremony details

If you plan to graduate at the end of Fall 2013, Spring 2014, or Summer semester 2014, don't forget to submit a Graduation Application.  To submit an Application for Graduation, login to Campus Connect and select "Apply to Graduate" located under Student Links.  If you wish to attend the graduation ceremony and have your name printed in the program, all applications must be submitted by March 1, 2014.

Do you plan to attend Spring 2014 Commencement Ceremony?

All Fall 2013, Spring 2014, and Summer 2014 graduates should fill out the (on-line) form to participate in the commencement ceremony. Students who will complete their degree requirements during the Summer 2014 session may participate in the commencement ceremony. For those desiring to participate in commencement, the application must be submitted by March 28, 2014 for the graduate's name to appear in the commencement program. Students will find the form at Campus Connect by clicking on "APPLY TO GRADUATE."

Honor Graduates

Only honor students who participate in the graduation ceremony will receive Ivy Tech honor cords. Cords are provided at rehearsal and will be available in the students robing area prior to the ceremony.

Note: Graduating with honor cords is based on your Fall 2013 GPA, regardless of when the degree requirements are met.

Notice to members of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK): YOU MAY WEAR ONLY ONE ITEM OF HONOR RECOGNITION DURING GRADUATION. You may choose to wear PTK honors cords or the PTK honors stole or Ivy Tech honor cords. You may not wear the PTK gold tassels. Please check with your PTK advisor for information regarding Phi Theta Kappa honor apparel.

Graduation day is fast approaching. The following list of FAQs and answers will help you prepare for your day.

When and where will the commencement ceremony be held?
Graduation will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 10, at Ivy Tech’s main Kokomo campus location (1815 E. Morgan St.).

What if it rains or storms on graduation day?
In the event of inclement weather, please check the Ivy Tech Kokomo Region Website, www.ivytech.edu/kokomo, for details about a contingency plan. A decision will be made and posted to the website no later than 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 8.

As a graduate, what else do I need to know?
To make your special day as enjoyable and stress-free as possible:

  • Purchase your grad gear as early as April 1 at the Campus Connection Bookstore.
  • Press or steam your gown prior to graduation day.
  • Don’t wear light-colored shoes or slacks. Also, no flip-flops.
  • Don’t wear flowers, pins, extra hoods, etc., with your gown. The only acceptable accessories include honor cords and Phi Theta Kappa stoles.
  • Arrive on time. Doors will open no later than 8 a.m. Graduates should arrive no later than 9 a.m. and go directly to their school’s assigned dressing room.
  • Leave all personal belongings with a friend or relative during the graduation ceremony.
  • Don’t forget to bring your tassel along with your cap and gown.

On the day of the ceremony, graduates will be lined up in the order in which your name will be read. To do so, all graduates should go to their school’s assigned dressing room in the main building. Your school dean will provide further instructions once all graduates are gathered.

When should guests plan to arrive?
Guests should arrive no later than 9:30 a.m. All seating will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

I am a member of Phi Theta Kappa. Where should I get my Phi Theta Kappa stole?
Phi Theta Kappa stoles must be purchased and picked up prior to the graduation ceremony from the campus bookstore.

I think I will graduate with honors. How will I know for sure and will I be recognized during the ceremony for this achievement with honor cords?
For students graduating with honors, you will be notified by the registrar’s office and will be eligible to wear honor cords during the ceremony. Honor cords must be picked up prior to the graduation ceremony from the campus bookstore.

I would like a photo to remember my special day. May my family members take photos during the ceremony or will there be professional photos taken?
To avoid disrupting the ceremony and distracting other guests and graduates, family members are welcome to take photos but must remain seated during the ceremony. Professional photographs will be taken during the ceremony and personal pictures of the graduates with family and friends can be taken on the stage immediately following the ceremony.

As you receive your diploma cover from the chancellor during the ceremony, your photo will be taken by Harmon Photography. Proofs will be available at www.bharmonphoto.com. Pricing is below but is subject to change:

  • 8x10 = $18
  • 5x7 = $10
  • 4x6 = $9
  • 4x5 = $8

Will there be a nursing and surgical technology graduate pinning ceremony?
December 2013, May 2014 and July 2014 graduates can participate in the pinning ceremony held 30 minutes after graduation in the Kokomo Event and Conference Center, 1500 North Reed Road (U.S. 931). Families are invited. Professional dress is required. Pins are available for purchase in the bookstore and must be brought to the ceremony. Those who do not attend graduation will not be allowed to participate in the pinning ceremony. For more information about the pinning ceremony, contact Kelly Williams at kawillia@ivytech.edu.

As a graduate, will I automatically become a member of the Ivy Tech Alumni Association?

Lafayette (Crawfordsville, Lafayette)
The 2014 graduation ceremony will be held on Sunday, May 11, 2014 at Purdue University, Elliott Hall. The ceremony will begin at 2 p.m. (EST).

North Central (Elkhart, South Bend, Warsaw)

The 2014 graduation ceremony will be held at 6:00 pm on Friday, May 9, 2014 in the Purcell Pavilion at the University of Notre Dame’s Joyce Center.

***Students are to arrive at 5:00 pm.***


Below is information that can help you as you prepare for commencement.

  • There is no rehearsal for commencement ceremonies.
  • There is no limit to the number of guests you may invite to attend.
  • Do not wear shoes that make it difficult to walk, as you will be walking a lot, including up and down a ramp to and from the stage.
  • Parking is free and available in the parking lot to the South of the Joyce Center. There is no admission fee for the ceremony.  If you are being dropped off, drop off at Gate 10.
  • There is no place to keep personal belongings during the ceremony. Please leave purses and other personal items with a friend or family member during the ceremony, or leave the items at home.
  • Family and guests to enter Gate 9, the main entrance of Purcell Pavilion.
  • Students enter the Joyce Center through Gate 3.  When you arrive, ushers will be available to assist with directions. Graduates will line up by school (Business, Nursing, etc.).
  • By the time you are ready to line up with your group, you should be dressed in your cap and gown. There is no separate dressing room for graduates.
  • You will be led into the arena for the processional.
  • You will sit in the same order in which you line up---by school.
  • You will be directed to the front when it is time for you to receive your diploma.

Ivy Tech's 2014 graduation ceremony has been set for
May, 13, 2014 at 6:30 p.m.

Honors recognition at the commencement ceremony is based on the student's cumulative GPA from the Fall semester. Actual honors recognition will be recorded on the student's academic transcript posted with the degree earned.

Commencement will be held Friday, May 9, 2014 at the Ford Center. The ceremony begins at 7 p.m., but graduates MUST report to the Ford Center by 6 p.m. Please remember to wear comfortable, but appropriate, shoes (no flip flops please) because we’ll be standing prior to beginning the ceremony.

Students receiving academic honors will be notified 2 weeks prior to the ceremony to pick up their honors cord in the Registrar’s Office. Academic honors for the ceremony are awarded to students earning an overall gpa of 3.5 or higher at the end of the fall 2013 semester.
