BLOOMINGTON – Ivy Tech Community College’s Bloomington campus is hosting a cruise-in car and bike show on Saturday, October 8 and the public is invited. The family-friendly event will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Ivy Tech Community College located at 200 Daniels Way, in Bloomington. The show will be held in Ivy Tech’s parking lot adjacent to 3rd Street (State Road 48).
Car and bike registration will take place at 9:00 a.m. and awards will be presented at 12:00 p.m. General admission is free. In lieu of a registration fee for cars and bikes, donations will be accepted to benefit Ivy Tech’s Student Emergency Assistance Fund.
The first 50 cars and bikes registered will receive a dash plaque for attending and category winners will receive a trophy. Categories include: Best Interior, Best Body, Best Engine, Best Overall, and People’s Choice. Light refreshments will be available, and the show will be held rain or shine.
The Student Emergency Assistance Fund grew out of Ivy Tech’s student success committee, which works to eliminate barriers to student persistence and completion. Established in 2015, the fund supports students experiencing emergency situations that would otherwise keep them from attending class. To-date, it has awarded $1,350 of assistance in the form of books, gas cards, and car batteries.
“The fund is an important safety net for our students who often encounter a variety of unforeseen circumstances in their lives,” said Ivy Tech Bloomington Chancellor Jennie Vaughan. “Thanks to a streamlined process, students can expect a determination on their request for aid within 24 hours. That can be a game-changer. Donations received from the car and bike show will go directly toward helping these students.”
