Ivy Tech Bloomington appoints three vice chancellors under new organizational structure

BLOOMINGTON –Ivy Tech Community College Bloomington announced on Wednesday, July 19 that it has appointed three vice chancellors as part of the College’s statewide restructure project, which is ongoing throughout the fall. The three vice chancellors had previously served in other roles on campus.

Larry Swafford, Ph.D., has been appointed vice chancellor for academic affairs. In addition to serving as vice chancellor for academic affairs, Dr. Swafford will continue in his role as dean of the School of Health Sciences. He began his career at Ivy Tech’s Bloomington campus in February of 2006. Dr. Swafford holds an associate degree from Southwestern Illinois College, a bachelor’s degree from the University of Oklahoma, and both a master’s degree in education and doctorate degree from Virginia Commonwealth University.

Sam DeWeese, Ph.D., has been appointed vice chancellor for student success. Dr. DeWeese began his career with the Bloomington campus in September of 2005 in the department now known as workforce alignment. He most recently served as the vice chancellor for student affairs. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Indiana University, a master’s degree from Ball State University, and a doctorate degree from Indiana State University.

Jessica Strunk has been appointed vice chancellor for enrollment services. Strunk began her career at Ivy Tech’s Bloomington campus in 2004 as a work-study student. Strunk most recently served in dual roles as registrar and director of the express enrollment center. She holds an associate degree from Ivy Tech Bloomington, a bachelor’s degree from Indiana State University, and a master’s degree from Capella University.

In June, Ivy Tech Community College’s systems office announced a new organizational structure focused on better serving students and the state’s workforce needs by aligning with communities at the campus level. Campuses are self-sustaining units with a chancellor as the executive. In the new structure, Ivy Tech has 19 campuses and 26 educational sites. Additionally, the College has reinstated its academic Schools model to align with Indiana’s key economic sectors and includes the Schools of Business, Logistics, and Supply Chain; Public Affairs and Social Services; Information Technology; Arts, Sciences, and Education; Health Sciences; Nursing; and Advanced Manufacturing, Engineering, and Applied Technology.
