Ivy Tech Community College’s Bloomington campus will host a 20th Anniversary 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at 9 a.m., in coordination with the City of Bloomington and Bloomington Metropolitan Fire Fighters Union Local 586. The event is open to the public and the community is invited to attend. It will be held entirely outdoors with limited seating.
The City of Bloomington’s beam from the structure of the World Trade Center is permanently on display on Ivy Tech’s campus, in front of the Cook Pavilion.
Fire Fighters Union Local 586 Member and Honor Guard Coordinator Robert Loviscek, who personally brought Bloomington’s beam from the structure of the World Trade Center back from New York City, will make opening remarks.
“September 11th is the day that we pay respect and honor the memories of those who were killed that day,” said Loviscek. “We shall never forget them or the sacrifices that were made that day.”
Bloomington Mayor John Hamilton will also make remarks, along with Retired Indiana Army National Guard Col. Kirk White, and Bloomington Fire Department Chaplain, Harold Godsey. The rifle salute will be carried out by Monroe County Law Enforcement Honor Guard. “Taps” will be performed by Jeff Parker, former Bloomington HS Band Member who now attends Indiana University and “Amazing Grace” by Captain Danny Gillespie.
The 9/11 remembrance event will take place in front of Ivy Tech’s Cook Pavilion entrance on the northwest side of the building, located at 200 Daniels Way on the west side of Bloomington.
