What does the Campus Events department do?
Aly: The Campus Events department oversees the success of internal and external events. We work with internal departments to strategize and coordinate event calendars to benefit and support the College’s mission and vision.
For our external clients, we act not only as the venue for their events, but also as a resource to help them through the entire planning process. From the sales process to day-of coordination, we are here to help our clients execute meaningful and impactful events!
What are your responsibilities as the Ivy Tech Indianapolis Senior Director of Events & Assistant Director of Events?
Aly: As the senior director of events, it is my responsibility to create and implement effective processes and procedures to ensure the success and growth of all campus events. I oversee the event department and collaborate with our wonderful facilities, security, maintenance, custodial, marketing, and audio/visual (AV) team members to deliver excellent guest service to our clients and guests.
Liz: The better question is, what aren't my responsibilities? 😆 However, my main responsibilities are to assist both internal and external clients who use our event spaces from beginning through completion. I help submit facilities tickets for tabling setups and tickets for any AV needs the client may have. I am also on-site to assist with anything they may need on the day of their event.
Is there anything you wish more people knew about your role on campus?
Liz: We're here to help and answer any questions they may have about the event spaces, setups, capacities, etc!
Aly: Yes! We are here to help! We have a plethora of event industry knowledge and would love to share our expertise with the different departments on campus that host events. When our events succeed, Ivy Tech succeeds!
Are there common issues you help students, staff, faculty, or even community members with?
Liz: What we help with are more inquiries than issues. The inquiries are typically associated with date and room availability and the possibility of switching dates.
Aly: We love to problem-solve and work with other departments and student organizations to ensure events are set up for success. From room bookings and availability to catering and planning, we are happy to assist in any operational or logistical need.
What do you like best about your job?
Aly: I love the people we work with! External clients are always fun; however, being able to support the College’s mission and vision with our internal team members provides me with such joy! I am so proud to be a part of Indy’s campus! 😊
Liz: Seeing everything come together after all the hard work and planning that goes into the event. Being able to see the happiness and appreciation that comes from the client, internal or external, not only lets me know that I had a part in it but also gives me gratification.
What is a recent project you worked on that you are proud of?
Aly: I loved working with the XBE Planning Committee to execute the event held this past June in the Conference Center and Culinary Institute!
Liz: The most recent project I'm proud of was working with the staff of the Indiana Department of Education. They were very grateful and appreciative of the work our team did in order to help pull off their all-day event.
What is a current or future project you’re working on that you’re excited about?
Liz: I am excited to be the events lead for the pinning ceremony for nursing students in 2024.
Aly: We’re currently working on implementing an event-planning software that will help streamline our planning process. This will be such a great tool to elevate our department and set us up for operational success!
What is your favorite food?
Liz: You can always catch me at an AUTHENTIC taco spot. I have a favorite spot on the east side of Indy.
Aly: PIZZA! And we can settle the debate here: pineapple DOES belong on pizza!
What was the last live entertainment you attended?
Aly: Taylor Swift: Eras Tour in Cincinnati, Ohio. Worth the 7-hour wait to get tickets (Thank you, Ticketmaster).
Liz: I went to see Janet Jackson at Ruoff Music Center this past summer! 😀
Fun fact?
Aly: I am a full-on Disney Adult. I did the Disney College Program after college, and it was the most amazing experience of my life. Love Disney, or planning a trip? I’m your girl; let’s talk for hours about it. I truly love it! 😊
Liz: I have had a side business selling candles since 2021. I also love to bake. 🍪
