Ivy Tech Hosts Annual Agriculture and Engineering Challenge ‘Cob and Cog’
TERRE HAUTE – Ivy Tech’s annual agriculture and engineering challenge ‘Cob and Cog’, brought together 17 schools and more than 500 high school students from throughout the state on Friday, April 28.
The event was hosted by Ivy Tech’s School of Advanced Manufacturing, Engineering, and Applied Science and aims to prepare students for careers in agriculture and engineering. The event featured a variety of competitions that tested students' skills in areas including drones, livestock judging, robotics, GPS/GIS mapping, and more.
The event was made possible by a $10,000 Duke Energy Foundation grant. "Duke Energy is a proud supporter of Ivy Tech's Engineering and Agriculture Challenge, ‘Cob and Cog’, because it’s a great way to get students excited about education and career opportunities in these fields,” said Rick Burger, Duke Energy’s district manager. “By combining these two disciplines (agriculture and engineering), we are supporting an ever-growing need for innovation, which is so important for our region.”
Other sponsors included Novelis, CenterPoint Energy, Bane-Welker, Ceres Solutions, IBEW Local 725, Terre Haute Regional Airport, Elanco, The Equity, WorkOne, Terre Haute Economic Development Corporation, Corteva, Steel Dynamics, Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 157, and Beck’s Hybrids.
