Ivy Tech Empowers Vigo County High School Students on Early College Day
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – On Friday, March 1, Ivy Tech Terre Haute hosted an Early College Day for local Vigo County high school students. The event aimed to provide students with information pertaining to higher education, encouraging them to explore the various educational pathways available and to consider their future careers.
The Early College Day brought together students from Terre Haute North, Terre Haute South, and West Vigo high schools, providing them with an immersive experience. Students participated in engaging activities designed to enhance leadership and critical thinking skills, encourage healthy communication styles, and take part in both teamwork and career exploration.
“This event highlights the collaboration between Ivy Tech Terre Haute and the Vigo County School Corporation,” said Amanda Cox, director of admission, recruitment, & K-14. “We have a shared commitment to fostering educational pathways and career exploration opportunities for West Central Indiana students.”
The day concluded with information about Ivy Tech’s dual credit courses and the Indiana College Core. The Indiana College Core is a certificate, consisting of 30 credit hours toward general education requirements. In many cases, local high school students participating in Ivy Tech dual credit or dual enrollment courses can complete the Indiana College Core requirements before graduating high school. Dual credit courses are available at most West Central Indiana high schools, taught by dual credit instructors, and are offered to high school students at no cost. The credits can be transferred to any Indiana public college or university and allows students to start their college career as a sophomore – saving them a year’s worth of time and money.
