TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Ivy Tech Community College Terre Haute has appointed Chris Himsel, Ph.D., Superintendent of the Vigo County School Corporation (VCSC), to the Campus Board of Trustees. With decades of experience in education, leadership, and community engagement, Himsel’s expertise will enhance the Board’s efforts to expand dual credit opportunities.

“I am honored to join the Ivy Tech Terre Haute Campus Board of Trustees, and I look forward to continuing partnerships between K-12 and higher education,” Dr. Himsel said. “Ivy Tech is an immeasurable asset in our community.”

Since joining VCSC in 2023, Himsel has made a positive impact on education in Vigo County, which includes collaboration with Ivy Tech. Later this year the partnership will launch a summer camp program for Vigo County 7th graders. This initiative introduces students to hands-on experiences that align with career pathways available through dual credit courses and Ivy Tech programs, fostering early career exploration and academic success.

With nearly 35 years in education, Dr. Himsel has served in numerous roles; coach, teacher and principal. He led Northwest Allen County Schools for 12 years, after serving as Superintendent at Kokomo Center Schools. Beyond K-12, he has contributed to higher education as an assistant professor, presented at various conferences, and served on the Board of Trustees for Ivy Tech’s Fort Wayne Campus. His expertise includes topics such as educational leadership, multi-metric accountability, teacher evaluation, and legislative advocacy, earning him Indiana Superintendent of the Year in 2017.

"Dr. Himsel’s extensive background in education and community service makes him a tremendous asset to the Ivy Tech Terre Haute Campus Board of Trustees," said Lea Anne Crooks, Ph.D., chancellor of Ivy Tech Terre Haute. "We look forward to the perspectives and expertise he will bring to the campus."

Beyond his professional achievements, Himsel is involved in community organizations, including the Vigo County Education Foundation, Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce, and Vigo County Housing Steering Committee.

Himsel joins an exceptional group of community leaders on the Ivy Tech Terre Haute Campus Board of Trustees, who guide the College’s vision of providing high-quality credentials that align with the needs of West Central Indiana’s workforce and communities.
