General Application

NO APPLICATION FEE, NO ESSAY

APPLYING TO IVY TECH IS FREE & EASY

The Ivy Tech application is free and easy — you don’t need a certain test score, GPA, or class rank to get started at Ivy Tech. Applying takes about 10-15 minutes and can be completed entirely online.

VIEW STEPS TO APPLY TO IVY TECH

NO APPLICATION DEADLINES

Ivy Tech does not have a deadline for admission. Our 8-week class sessions start throughout the year—in January, March, June, August, and October—and there is no hard deadline for applying for any of the start dates. It's important, though, to apply early enough that you'll be able to complete all the degree planning, financial aid, and registration activities that need to happen before your first day. We recommend you apply about one month before you intend to start classes.

Open-Access Policy

Ivy Tech Community College has an open-access policy. This means that almost anyone who applies gets accepted to the college. In general, neither a high school diploma nor a GED or equivalency is required. The only requirement is for students to take an assessment to determine course placement so they can then be registered for classes. Depending on the program or course you choose, however, there may be some basic requirements, so be sure to review application requirements on each academic program page.

92% of our alumni would choose to attend Ivy Tech again

Selective Admissions for Certain Academic Programs

While admission to Ivy Tech is open-access, some academic degree programs at the college are highly competitive. Those programs have a selective admissions process, which means there are additional requirements students will need to complete before being accepted, and not all students who apply to the program will be accepted as space can be limited.

STEPS TO APPLY

  • APPLY NOW FOR FREE

    Applying to Ivy Tech

If you’ve never applied to Ivy Tech Community College before (or if it’s been two years since you last attended classes here), your first step is to apply to Ivy Tech.

    Two Ways to Apply

    Apply Online

    Apply In Person

If you'd like to apply in person, reach out to your local admissions team and arrange a meeting. Or, stop by any campus on any Tuesday for Tuesdays@TheTech to receive personal assistance with applying and registering for classes.

    What You'll Need to Apply

You'll want to have the following on hand when you fill out the Ivy Tech application.

    • Email address – personal email is preferred
    • Emergency contact information
    • Social Security Number (SSN)
    • Ivy Tech campus you’d like to attend

    Also, if applicable:

    • High school or equivalency: school name and graduation date
    • Previous college: school name, start and end dates
    • Current employer information

    Continuing a Saved Application

You can go back to finish an application you previously started at any time. We'll ask you to provide the email and the password you set up when you saved your application. We'll also email you a link to continue your saved application.

    Continue a Saved Application

  • College Readiness Assessment

After you submit your application, you'll be asked to upload documentation—such as SAT/ACT/PSAT scores or high school and college transcripts—that can assess your readiness for college-level coursework and help us make sure you are taking classes that are the right fit for you.

    upload assessment documents

Upload Documents at Any Time During Your First Term

Don't have SAT/ACT/PSAT scores or high school and college transcripts at your fingertips? Don’t worry! Just go ahead and submit your application. You can go back to upload assessment documents at any time. We'll ask you to provide your date of birth and the email used on your application and then send you a link to add to your saved application. You have until the end of the term for which you applied to return to your application and upload your assessment documents.

  • Look Out for an Email From Ivy Tech

Once your application processing is complete, you will receive a confirmation email at the email address provided on your application. Typically the email will arrive within 1-2 business days of submission, but during peak processing periods (April-June) could take up to 5-10 business days. If it has been more than 10 business days since you applied and you have not yet received your acceptance letter, contact Admissions at 888-IVY-LINE (1-888-489-5463).

The email will contain instructions on how to register for classes, as well as important information regarding your Ivy Tech student portal (MyIvy account), your Ivy Tech email address, your student identification number (C# number), tuition, payment options, and more.

    You May Receive a Call

In addition, you may receive a call from an enrollment specialist who will answer any questions you may have.

* Tuition costs per semester are shown for a full-time, Indiana resident. Total cost of attendance is estimated and includes tuition and some fees, books and supplies, room and board, transportation, and personal expenses.

Application Valid for 2 years

Your application is valid for two calendar years. If it has been two years since your initial application or two years since you have taken a class, you must complete a new application for admission. (For example, if you applied for fall 2020, that means you need to reapply for any term after fall 2022).

If you have been absent from Ivy Tech Community College for less than two years, you should be able to enroll in classes using your MyIvy account. If you have questions about what classes you should be taking, you should contact your academic advisor.

Please note, the processes above also apply to students that had to withdraw from the College due to a family emergency.

No Application Deadlines

Ivy Tech does not have a deadline for admission. Our 8-week class sessions start throughout the year—in January, March, June, August, and October—and there is no hard deadline for applying for any of the start dates.

What is Selective Admission?

Admission to Ivy Tech is open access; however, some degree programs at the college are highly competitive. Those programs have a selective admissions process, which means not all students who apply to the program will be accepted. Selective admission processes are needed because there are more people interested in taking courses in those programs than there are seats available.

Programs with Selective Admission

The following academic programs at Ivy Tech have a selective admissions process:

How this Affects Applying to Ivy Tech

Students interested in selective programs must apply to Ivy Tech and complete the prerequisites before they can apply to their selective program. Selective programs accept a limited number of students each year and require a separate application. Students interested in these programs should contact their local campus for more details.

Assessing Transfer Credits

If you're interested in seeing if any of your previous classes qualify for transfer credit to Ivy Tech, once you are admitted you will need to submit an official copy of your college transcripts from your former institution to our Transcript Processing Center.

By Email

You can request copies to be sent electronically via email to transcripts@ivytech.edu.

By Mail

An official transcript will need to come from the registrar at your former institution in a sealed envelope to be considered for transfer credit. Ask your former institution to mail a copy of your official transcripts to:
