HYBRID (IN-PERSON & ONLINE)

  • Learn Anywhere

Hybrid courses are a mixture of both in-person and online formats. In the “Learn Anywhere” format, courses are taught from an on-site classroom at a scheduled time and students can attend live in-person or via live webcast technology. Students have the choice week-to-week on how they would like to attend.

Attendance at each class session is mandatory and students must proactively communicate with their instructor when a class session must be missed. Students can expect that at least 50% of the course contact hours are synchronous—that is, they will occur in real-time whether they attend on campus or via Zoom. The remainder of the class activities is completed via IvyLearn. If a class is offered at multiple on-site instructional locations, the instructor will be in a classroom with students at one campus while other students attend at a separate campus or virtually. All assignments have due dates.

    Access to Campus

Students are encouraged to come to campus to take advantage of the services available and to be a part of the campus community but are not required to do so in a Learn Anywhere course.

    Technology Requirements

The live online sessions require students to have sufficient broadband access and a device with a microphone or headset. Students interact with their online courses via mobile devices, tablets, or computers, but a computer is required to complete coursework. Some academic programs require students to download software to their computers. A webcam may be required. Students may be required to take exams at an approved proctoring site or via other virtual proctoring options.

    Exams

Exams may be provided in Learn Anywhere courses in a variety of ways including but not limited to:

    • A proctored exam that is administered by an authorized, neutral proctor who ensures the identity of the test taker in a secure environment
    • An online environment that could use proctoring software such as Respondus Lockdown Browser with webcam
    • Asynchronous exams provided within IvyLearn without proctoring

  • Blended Courses

Hybrid courses are a mixture of both in-person and online formats. In the “Blended” format, both are an integral part of the course. There is a scheduled class time, but you’ll spend some days in the classroom, and some days in an online learning space. Blended courses are at least one-third in person, but the exact percentage will vary from course to course.

Students can expect that at least ⅓ of the course contact hours are synchronous—that is, they will occur in real-time—and on campus. The online and/or virtual component often includes significant activities which require engagement between faculty and student as well as from student to student. All assignments have due dates.

    Technology Requirements

The live online sessions require students to have sufficient broadband access and a device with a microphone or headset. Students interact with their online courses via mobile devices, tablets, or computers, but a computer is required to complete coursework.
