U.S. Citizenship Education Training
Cost: $0

The 12-week program was made possible through a donation by Circle of Ivy, a female philanthropy for Ivy Tech. It is offered through the non-credit programming of Ivy+ Career Link.

The program is open to legal permanent residents who are ready to pursue citizenship. The course will cover U.S. civics, reading and writing portions of the Citizenship test and practice interviews, through Sagrario’s Joy. Sagrario’s Joy is a mission and ministry developed by three friends at Utica Baptist Church in Utica, KY. Mike and Heather Owens felt led to begin Sagrario’s Joy in 2023 with veteran teacher Cindy Stilwell. Mike assists with accessibility and case management, Heather with community engagement and curriculum development, and Cindy serves as the lead citizenship educator. In addition to citizenship classes to prepare for the N-400 interview, Sagrario’s Joy provides mock interviews, connection to community services, and ongoing support.

Sagrario’s Joy is named for Sagrario Nunez and Kathleenjoy Cooper, two nuns who personally inspired its creation by their dedication to improving the lives of immigrants everywhere.
