What You’ll Learn
Under its AHERA Asbestos in Schools Rule, the EPA mandated that all public, nonprofit private, and Defense Department K-12 schools must have an updated management plan for each building that leases, owns, or otherwise uses as a school building even if there are no asbestos-containing building materials (ACBM) in such buildings.
Thus, the management planner must work with the building owner to accomplish two principal tasks: 1. To prepare a management plan for all buildings with or without ACBM, and 2. To make recommendations for the proper management of asbestos in all buildings with ACBM.
In addition to completing the Management Planner course and scoring at least 70% on the course exam, you must meet the individual state requirements to receive a state license. This generally involves completing the state application, paying a fee, and meeting the experience/education requirements. For example, in Indiana management planners must either have a post-secondary degree in one of several specific disciplines or one year of specific building-related experience. Our courses are accepted for licensing in Indiana, Illinois and in states requiring only EPA approval, such as Kentucky, Michigan, and Ohio. Call us regarding other states you might be interested in.
Career Options
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requires that all public, non-profit private, and Defense Department as well as K-12 schools have an updated management plan for each building that leases, owns, or otherwise uses as a school building even if there are no asbestos-containing building materials (ACBM) in such buildings - and need certified professionals to complete these requirements.
Environmental technician occupations are expected to grow almost 13% by 2031 in the state of Indiana, and Environmental Specialist occupations are expected to grow over 16% in the same timeframe.
