About the Program

Ivy Tech Indianapolis Automotive Technology program offers:

  • Paid cooperative education opportunities 100% job placement for those who meet industry employability requirements through our corporate programs Toyota T-TEN and GM ASEP
  • Both hands-on and cognitive skills training to prepare graduates to diagnose and service the high tech systems found on modern vehicles

Upon graduation, Automotive Technology Programs graduates are prepared to:

  • Take and successfully pass the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Technician Certification Exams
  • Continue their careers as full-time professional automotive service technician with the hands-on and cognitive skills necessary to meet the high demand for trained automotive service technicians today.
  • Locally in Indianapolis, graduates of the Toyota T-TEN and GM ASEP programs often earn $40,000 - $70,000 per year ($20 - $38 per hour), with the potential to earn more as you advance in your career 

About the Center

Home to the Automotive Technology program, the Automotive Technology Center is a $14 million facility with nine labs, 16 classrooms, and state-of-the-art facilities. Ivy Tech is proud to offer students work-driven learning experience in this facility.

Part of Your Degree Could be Free!

Indiana Next Level JobsIndiana's Next Level Jobs degree program is funded by the Workforce Ready Grant, and may make it possible for you to earn an Automotive certificate for free. You can then begin working in the industry with the certificate or apply the credits to an associate degree.

You are eligible to be a part of Next Level Jobs at Ivy Tech if you fulfill all of the following requirements:

  • Are an Indiana resident
  • Have a high school diploma or GED/High School Equivalency
  • Have not previously received a certificate in a Next Level Jobs eligible program
  • Have not previously received an associate degree or higher (bachelors, masters, etc.)

Degree Paths Designed for Dealership Preparation

  • GM ASEP LogoProgram Offered as Part of a National Curriculum

    The General Motors Automotive Service Education Program (GM ASEP) is a comprehensive two-year Associate of Applied Science Degree, cooperative education training program where students alternate between classroom/lab work at the college with paid hands-on work experience at a sponsoring GM Dealership or AC Delco Service facility. 

    The program is part of a national offering in partnership with GM, so you can learn more on their official website:

    Designed to Pay Off for Graduates

    Upon completing the program, you will:

    • Have earned an Associate of Applied Science degree in Automotive Technology
    • Completed up to 94% of the required GM Master Automotive Technician Training
    • Be GM certified
    • Have real-world GM Dealership Experience
    • Be ready to fulfill YOUR great career servicing GM vehicles

    Successful graduates can obtain full-time employment at a GM dealership, earning competitive starting wages from $40,000 - $70,000 per year ($20 - $38 per hour).

    Our program prepares students that would like to advance to earn additional certifications and become a World Class General Motors Automotive Service Technician, who could make more than $80,000 to $100,000 per year. 

    Interested in earning a bachelor's degree? Students also have the ability to transfer to many four-year universities.

    T-TEN is a nationally-recognized automotive training program with the ultimate goal of training and placing Toyota and Lexus-certified technicians in a dealership position.

    This cooperative education program combines hands-on classroom training with paid in-dealership work experience.

    • Be Toyota Trained and Certified
    • Be ASE Certified
    • Have real-world Toyota/Lexus Dealership Experience
    • Have a rewarding career as a Toyota/Lexus Certified Technician
    • Have earned a 2-year associate of applied science degree

    Successful graduates can obtain full-time employment at a Toyota/Lexus dealership, earning competitive starting wages from $40,000 - $70,000 per year ($20 - $38 per hour).

    Our program prepares students that would like to advance to earn additional certifications and become a Dealership Master Technician, who could make more than $80,000 per year. 

    Interested in earning a bachelor's degree? Students also have the ability to transfer to many four-year universities.

Proud to Offer Students an Elevated Learning Environment

Ivy Tech Indianapolis opened the new Automotive Technology Center in June 2021. The $14 million facility gives students nearly 60,000 square feet of premium workspace to learn and prepare for their career.

Diesel Technology

Do you like big diesel power? Ivy Tech Community College's Diesel Technology / Heavy Truck Training Program can help you prepare for a career as a diesel service technician. You will learn to diagnose and repair Class 8 Tractor / Trailers to build your industry knowledge and skills while preparing for the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certification Medium-Heavy Truck tests and start a career as a heavy truck diesel technician. 

Upon completion, you will: 

  •   Be prepared for entry-level jobs as a diesel technician in a variety of settings including truck, and bus servicing, industrial or government fleet servicing, 
  •   Take and successfully pass the ASE Medium-Heavy Truck Certification tests. The ASE certification is a respected industry certification that can strengthen students' resumes as they explore career opportunities.  
  •   Continue their careers as full-time professional diesel service technicians with the hands-on and cognitive skills necessary to meet the high demand for trained technicians.
