High School Health Care Academy

  • Ivy Tech South Bend High School Health Academy is scholarship based and paid for through a grant - all you have to do is apply HERE to be eligible
  • The Health Careers Academy will offer three college credit courses to high school students: IVYT 112 (1 credit), HLHS 104 (0.5 credit for CPR), and HLHS 121 (3 credits for customer relations), totaling 4.5 credits per student. These credits are transferable for students who later attend the college
  • The program structure includes Tuesday and Wednesday sessions for IVYT and customer relations courses, while Thursdays will begin with CPR training followed by various skills training activities. Additional programming includes workshops, nursing simulations, program tours, career fairs, and an awards ceremony upon completion. SEE PRINTABLE SCHEDULE HERE
  • The program is limited to 25 high school students from Elkhart, St. Joseph, and Marshall counties
  • Students who complete the program will be eligible to receive a $200 gift card incentive

HLHS 104 - CPR/Basic Life Support

  • Credits: 0.5

PREREQUISITES: None.
CATALOG DESCRIPTION: Provides students with information necessary to recognize the need for one and two-person cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) as it relates to adults, children and infants. Requires students to safely perform CPR and the use of Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

IVYT 112 - Student Success-Health Sciences and Nursing

  • Credits: 1

CATALOG DESCRIPTION: This course provides students with an overview of skills and strategies necessary to reach their educational, career, and life objectives. Topics include time management, study skills, learning styles, campus and community resources, critical thinking, utilization of technology, career skills, and diversity in society.

HLHS 121 - Customer Relations-Healthcare

  • Credits: 3

Description:This course is designed to introduce students to the healthcare environment and the expectations of them as healthcare professionals and as a team member. Students will develop the necessary skills for recognizing and providing excellent customer relations as a healthcare professional and as a representative of a healthcare provider. Utilizing various methods the student will develop an understanding and attitude of superior customer relations which is critical to success for a healthcare professional and as a representative of a healthcare provider.
