Major Learning Objectives include:

  1. Review basic computer operations and safety protocols.
  2. Describe the common parts of programmable controllers.
  3. Identify the common parts of programmable controllers.
  4. Navigate PLC specific software.
  5. Configure networked components.
  6. Describe logic circuits.
  7. Interpret basic ladder logic diagrams.
  8. Create basic ladder logic diagrams.
  9. Install a simple programmable controller system.
  10. Troubleshoot a programmable controller system.
  11. Solve application problems using programmable logic controller processors.

Career Options

Programmable Logic Controller Technicians and programmers are a four-flame occupation on Indiana's INDemand Jobs. This career has one of the largest 10-year growth trajectories - nearly 30% by 2031.

More flames mean greater demand. Rankings are based on Indiana’s future job demand, wage level and current job posting data. The INDemand Ranking is available at the statewide level or by region.

Intended Audience

This class is great for maintenance personnel, technicians, and others who need an introduction to PLCs and PLC programming.

Prerequisites

Learners should have basic technical knowledge and be familiar with Windows operating systems. Previous PLC and/or electrical experience are helpful but not required!
