The Ivy Tech Automotive Technology program is proud to have OEM partnerships at several locations across the state with industry-leading organizations, including Mopar and Subaru.
These partnerships allow Ivy Tech to provide virtual Factory OEM training as part of the program's curriculum, giving students experience with real world application that better prepares them for a successful career.
Currently, Mopar® Career Automotive Program is offered in Evansville, Indianapolis, Fort Wayne, Kokomo, and South Bend. Subaru University is offered at Lafayette.
Specialized Associate Degrees
If you're set on working for a General Motors or Toyota dealership, the Indianapolis campus is proud to offer specialized associate degrees in partnership with the national programs General Motors Automotive Service Education Program (GM-ASEP) and Toyota T-TEN. Both two-year programs alternate between classroom/lab instruction at Ivy Tech and paid, hands-on work experience at a sponsoring dealership.
The Ivy Tech Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Automotive Technology degree program allows students to shape their training in a specialized area of the industry. Through elective courses, they can select specializations like:

This specialized Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Automotive Technology is offered through the national General Motors Automotive Service Education Program (GM ASEP). GM ASEP is a comprehensive two-year Associate of Applied Science Degree, cooperative education training program where students alternate between classroom/lab work at the college with paid hands-on work experience at a sponsoring GM Dealership or AC Delco Service facility. Graduates go on to work as a dealership tech.

This specialized Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Automotive Technology is offered through the national Toyota T-TEN program. T-TEN is a nationally-recognized automotive training program with the ultimate goal of training and placing Toyota and Lexus-certified technicians in a dealership position.
This cooperative education program combines hands-on classroom training with paid in-dealership work experience. Graduates go on to work as a dealership tech.

Ivy Tech's Auto Body Technology Technical Certificate (TC) provides advanced body and paint coursework. It offers the higher level of training that many original equipment manufacturers prefer in collision repair professionals.
Through education and training that includes 600 hours of hands-on work with real vehicles, the program prepares students to take the B series tests for ASE certification and is a foundation for I-CAR training.
The Auto Body Technology TC program requires 34 credit hours, or two to three semesters, to complete.

The Ivy Tech Collision Repair Certificate (CT) offers aspiring collision technicians the opportunity to learn the latest technological advancements in the industry. The program meets the ASE and I-CAR standards that original equipment manufacturers typically prefer.
Featuring more than 300 hours of instruction in a state-of-the-art collision lab, students can strengthen their attention to detail in preparation for an entry-level position. They also can work toward I-CAR Pro-Level 1 certification.
The Collision Repair STC requires 18 credit hours, or two semesters, to complete.
Earn a Certificate on the Way to Your Associate Degree
If your goal is to earn an associate degree in Automotive Technology, you can earn this short-term certificate on your way. The certificate is designed to provide a gateway into entry-level collision repair careers. That means you may be able to enter the workforce in your desired field after receiving your CT, on your way to pursuing a long-term certificate (which is called a Technical Certificate) and associate degree.

The Ivy Tech Electric and Hybrid Vehicle Certificate (CT), prepares students for ASE's light duty hybrid/electric vehicle specialist certification exam. With this Ivy Tech short-term certificate, students will have the deep knowledge of electric and hybrid vehicles to enter the automotive technology industry.

The short-term certificate is designed to provide a gateway toward entry-level maintenance and light repair careers, so you can begin working quickly. You may then choose to pursue a long-term certificate (known as a Technical Certificate) in automotive service technology, to learn more, move up in your professional career, and pursue an associate degree.
You can apply the credits from your certificate to your higher-level credentials at Ivy Tech to make the most of your time and tuition.

Light-duty diesel technicians are in high demand as the world transitions to a more sustainable automotive energy source. Diesel engine-equipped vehicles are more plentiful than they were in the past because of their increased efficiency and increased mileage. Stringent emissions standards are starting to require the technician to have a higher level of training before they transition into the field. Developing the diesel repair skill sets provides the student with the needed information and training to become successful in the automotive field.
Light Duty Diesel Vehicle CT requires 18 credit hours, or two semesters, to complete.
Earn a Certificate on the Way to Your Associate Degree
This program provides diagnostic and theory training to allow you to become an entry level diesel technician at a dealership or independent repair facility. Throughout this program you will be exposed to automotive electrical, diesel theory, diesel emissions, diesel troubleshooting and diesel engine performance training. Building on this CT students can then roll it into the Technical Certificate and AAS Degree to further their education.
Hydraulics are present on every jobsite, farm and vocational vehicle application throughout the world. This program provides you the entry level skills needed to start a career in the mobile equipment repair industry. Understanding basic electrical, mechanical and hydraulic systems provides the student with the skills needed to be successful in the mobile equipment field. This is a great way to develop those skill sets to sit for the International Fluid Power Society Mobile Hydraulic Mechanic exam.
Mobile Equipment Technician CT requires 18 credit hours, or two semesters, to complete.
Earn a Certificate on the Way to Your Associate Degree
This program provides diagnostic and theory training to allow you to become an entry-level mobile hydraulic technician. Throughout this program you will be exposed to automotive electrical, hydraulic fundamentals, applied hydraulics, welding and GPS guidance systems. This is a great pathway if you are looking to become a repair technician in the Construction Heavy Equipment, Agriculture Equipment or Diesel Equipment industries. Building on this CT the student can then roll it into the Technical Certificate and AAS Degree to further their education.

Mobile Equipment Technician CT requires 18 credit hours to complete.
The Motorsports Technology program offers practical experience with cutting-edge technology and high-performance vehicles. It includes instruction in vital skills such as safety, race car fabrication, tuning, and performance optimization. Students will also gain knowledge in aerodynamics, vehicle dynamics, and chassis setup, alongside hands-on training in engine diagnostics, repair, and tuning. This career path provides mentorship from seasoned instructors with industry knowledge and networking opportunities with motorsports professionals.

Ivy Tech's Automotive Technology program offers an excellent opportunity to prepare for entry-level careers and establish the foundation for future education and training in the field. Students who begin with a long-term certificate or short-term certificate (previously called technical certificate and certificate, respectively) can build from that credential. They can pursue workforce certifications. They have the option to continue their work to complete an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree.

Tuition & Fees in the Automotive Technology Program
The Degree Types Offered table shows tuition for each of our programs; however it is also important for students to know that there are additional fees associated with the program.
Standard Ivy Tech Fees – Small fees for technology and consumables are required. See full list here
Automotive Technology Course Fees – Some courses include additional fees for project materials, exams, and certifications that are part of the curriculum. Ivy Tech aims to supply as many required items as possible for our students, but consumable fees do arise.

Completion of the following prerequisite course with a grade of "C" or higher is required as part of the Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Automotive Technology degree and the long-term certificate (previously called a technical certificate) programs:

No Expiration of Credits
There is no expiration date for course credits that were earned in previous years from Ivy Tech Community College.
Transfer Credit for Prerequisite Courses
Prerequisite courses completed at colleges other than Ivy Tech will only be considered for general education selection points if transfer credit has been awarded and courses appear on the Ivy Tech transcript prior to the application deadline.
TR grades are not recognized by the online application. It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure that transfer credit has been awarded and that TR grades are updated to transfer letter grades (TA, TB, TC) on their Ivy Tech transcript.
It is recommended that college transcripts be submitted to the Registrar’s office for evaluation and transfer credit at least 4 weeks prior to the program application deadline to ensure adequate time for processing.

Class Format
Due to the nature of the automotive technology profession and the hands-on learning in the curriculum, all Ivy Tech automotive technology courses are taught in a traditional, in-person format.
Applying to Ivy Tech is Free & Easy
The Ivy Tech application is free and easy—you don’t need a certain test score, GPA, or class rank to get started at Ivy Tech. Applying takes about 10-15 minutes and can be completed entirely online.
No Application Deadlines
Ivy Tech does not have a deadline for admission. Our 8-week class sessions start throughout the year—in January, March, June, August, and October—and there is no hard deadline for applying for any of the start dates. It's important, though, to apply early enough that you'll be able to complete all the degree planning, financial aid, and registration activities that need to happen before your first day. We recommend you apply about one month before you intend to start classes. See upcoming start dates
Start with a Certificate
For many Automotive Technology programs, Ivy Tech recommends applying for either a long-term certificate or short-term certificate (previously called technical certificates and certificates, respectively) when filling out the online application for admission, even if your end goal is to complete an Associate of Applied Science degree.
By starting at certificate level, you will be able to earn several stackable workforce certifications as part of your education and training.
Steps to Apply
(1) Apply to Ivy Tech
If you’ve never applied to Ivy Tech Community College before (or if it’s been two years since you last attended classes here), your first step is to apply to Ivy Tech. You can apply online or in person. To apply in person, reach out toyour local admissions team and arrange a meeting. Or, stop by any campus on any Tuesday for Tuesdays@TheTech to receive personal assistance with applying and registering for classes.
After you submit your application, you'll be asked to upload documentation—such as SAT/ACT/PSAT scores or high school and college transcripts—that can assess your readiness for college-level coursework and help us make sure you are taking classes that are the right fit for you. How to upload assessment documents
If you don't have your scores or transcripts at your fingertips, don’t worry. Go ahead and submit your application. You can go back to upload assessment documents at any time until the end of the term for which you applied.
(3) Look for a Confirmation Email
Once your application is processed, you will receive a confirmation email at the email address provided on your application. Typically the email will arrive within 1-2 business days of submission, but during peak processing periods (April-June) could take up to 5-10 business days.
The email will contain instructions on how to register for classes, as well as important information regarding your Ivy Tech student portal (MyIvy account), tuition, payment options, and more.
(4) Create an Account in MyIvy
MyIvy is Ivy Tech's online student portal. Students use MyIvy to check e-mail, register for classes, pay tuition, manage financial aid, get the latest news and announcements, and much more. MyIvy also contains "QuickLinks" to the Ivy Tech websites and online tools you will use most often. Learn more about MyIvy
Before you can register for classes you will need to submit documentation or complete an assessment test. Your test scores can help us determine the best English and math starting classes for you. See the Test Score Course Placement Chart
If you submitted assessment documentation during the application process, your advisor will likely be able to work with those documents to determine course placement and you won't need to take any further steps. If you don't have any of those documents or the scores don't meet minimum thresholds, don’t worry! (6) Register for Classes
Once you have completed the steps above, you may register for classes. Ivy Tech students register for courses using the Schedule Builder tool which can be accessed withinMyIvy. If you are a new, first-time Ivy Tech student, we recommend that you meet withyour advisor who will help you develop your Academic Completion Plan and help you sign up for courses that are the best fit for you.

(7) Pay Your Tuition
After registering for your courses, your bill can be viewed in yourMyIvy account > Student Dashboard- > View/Pay Balance. Payments can also be made in your MyIvy account. Skill Up Your Employees
Ivy Tech offers special degree and certificate programs developed to fit employers' unique workforce needs. Using our standard courses as a base, we work with you to learn about your job requirements and current pain points. Based on what we learn, we build a custom curriculum for either an associate degree or certificate program that will take your employees to the next level.
Ivy Tech has options in place for tuition, whether employers choose to pay for their employee's education or require employees to fund this individually.

Mopar CAP LOCAL Mopar CAP Local is a great program to capitalize on the growing need for Technicians. It helps you focus on the skills you need to start and build a career as an Automotive Service Technician. The curriculum is compact and takes you through Level 1 of FCA requirements… and then some. Recent changes have created a greater need for sophisticated diagnostic and repair skills. FCA US LLC is growing rapidly, causing an even higher demand for well-trained technicians.
Chrysler, Jeep®, Dodge, Ram vehicles are making extraordinary advancements in technology. To meet these new demands in technology, the Mopar.®CAP LOCAL Program is constantly seeking candidates who have a strong aptitude for mechanical and electronic technology as well as a desire to succeed.
