Meet Jonathan Getts

When Jonathan Getts enrolled in Ivy Tech Columbus’s Cyber Academy in Fall 2021 he was desperate for a change. He’d been homeless, moving from friends’ couches to sleeping in his car. For him, these classes were the beginning of a path that led out of the continuous misfortunes he had experienced thus far. 

The Cyber Academy is an accelerated learning program designed to prepare students with in-demand skills and industry knowledge in less than a year. With support from his family, academy cohort peers, and Ivy Tech faculty and staff, Getts was able to complete his accelerated associate degree in just 11 months. 

After graduation, Getts accepted an entry-level IT support desk job. He now works in the field he enjoys the most, cybersecurity, as a T2 Network Engineer.

Getts attributes his success to the Ivy Tech Cyber Academy. He has stated over and over again how the program, and the faculty and staff who work there, have helped him turn his life around. August 2024, Getts attended the annual Cyber Academy orientation event to welcome the newest members of the academy. During his speech to incoming students, Getts expressed how the MUTC Cyber Academy program changed his life in ways he never imagined. His story is an inspiring example of how hard work and community support can lead to incredible results!
