WHAT IS A SCHOLARSHIP?
A scholarship is an amount of money awarded to a student to help pay for college. Unlike a loan, which accumulates interest and has to be paid back, scholarships are gifts that don't need to be paid back. Scholarships are awarded to students based on a specific set of criteria, such as financial need, academic performance, college major, hometown, or other unique criteria. Scholarships can come from any number of sources, including governments, corporations, colleges (like Ivy Tech!), philanthropists, or any organization with goodwill.

WHO QUALIFIES?
To qualify for scholarships you must first apply and be accepted to Ivy Tech. After that, every scholarship has a different set of eligibility requirements, depending on the type of scholarship it is.
The most common qualification for scholarships is financial need, which is calculated as the gap between a student’s cost of attendance and the "expected family contribution"—usually an amount determined by your FAFSA.
