Ivy Tech Center for Lifelong Learning offers non-credit, personal enrichment and training classes for youth and adults. Registration for in-person and virtual classes is open to the public all year. With classes, workshops, and summer camps, students of all ages and skill levels have the chance to learn something new in the arts, humanities, STEM, and beyond!

ivy arts for kids (rising grades 1-5)
Ivy Arts for Kids is back this summer for its 15-year anniversary of celebrating youth arts education! For rising 1st-5th graders, this summer's program offers an immersive, hands-on experience in ceramics, painting, crafting, and mixed media that will spark your child's imagination and inspire creativity this summer and beyond.
Guided by instructors and assistants with a wide range of strengths and expertise, Ivy Arts for Kids is appropriate for budding artists or those curious about exploring their creative side. During our camp activities in Ivy Tech's Visual Arts and Ceramics classroom spaces, we'll split into two smaller groups based on age and skill level in order to provide as much individual instruction and opportunity for skill development as possible. As always, Ivy Arts for Kids culminates with an art showcase on the last day of camp, giving family and friends the chance to see their young artist's creations on full display!
All materials and equipment are provided. Participants will receive a camp t-shirt, work apron, and their own art kit to take home at the end of camp.NOTE: Ivy Arts for Kids is repeatable across multiple sessions, as instructors and content will vary, though it is designed as a half-day camp and is not intended for participation in AM and PM camps during the same session.

Baking camp: pies & tarts (Grades 6-8 + 9-12)
Welcome back to our College for Kids & Teens Baking Camps this summer where students will get the chance to learn the foundational techniques of baking in the professional kitchens of Ivy Tech's Culinary Arts & Hospitality Administration Program! In Pies & Tarts, we'll be making individual sized pies, hand pies, and tarts with a variety of fillings including fruit, custards, caramel, and chocolate. music synthesizers & audio synthesis (Grades 6-8)
From creating the sound of a flute and violin to a screaming electric guitar or alien spaceships, laser beams and other worldly soundscapes, electronic music and sounds created by audio synthesizers have been a staple in music and film soundtracks since their inception. Recent years have seen a huge resurgence of interest in these unique and highly creative audio tools. That sound of a soda can being opened in the commercial you just watched was created by an audio synthesizer! Nearly all the soundtrack and sound effects to your favorite video game or movie were composed and created by these fascinating instruments. You hear them every day and probably aren't aware of it.
This camp will utilize open source (free) software synthesizers so you will be able to keep exploring and growing long after the class is over. A few hardware guest stars will make their appearance through the week for a real hands-on experience!

Heroes, villains, fantastic friends, and foes - dream them up and then build them from the ground up in this five-day character design camp! You’ll start with a variety of basic drawing techniques with paper and pencil for a solid foundation, and then you’ll take your character into the digital realm with graphic art software that is open source (free) and always available to use. Beyond drawing, you’ll learn how to create believable and more complex characters and entire worlds in which they live.

Anyone can make mosaics! In this hands-on exploratory camp for rising 9th-12th graders, practicing artist Sara Colvard will guide you step-by-step through the process of creating beautiful and durable works of mosaic art. You’ll learn principles of artistic design; how to safely cut glass, tile, and stone; and use professional tools and techniques to make several unique artworks that express your personal style and will wow your family and friends. We’ll also take a peek into the fascinating history of mosaic, from ancient cultures around the world to modern fine art mosaics.
No prior art experience necessary - just an open mind and a willingness to experiment! All supplies provided.

Learn to mystify friends, family, and future audiences! Bob Wolanin has been a professional magician, ventriloquist, and designer performing around the country throughout his life. Bob will share his experience in his life-long journey through performance magic. Students will learn basic psychological, mechanical, theatrical and manipulative skills. Create mysteries using many items you can find around your home plus some props we'll make in class. Learn apparent miracles with playing cards, coins, rope & seem to read minds! Students will learn close-up and platform magic. You will be introduced to the magician's vocabulary and how to better navigate the many resources available to novice wizards for your continuing education afterwards.

Do you enjoy taking things apart and putting them together to create something totally new? In this collage and mixed media camp, students will learn how to “draw with scissors” and “paint with paper” as we experiment with creating collages. Students will also learn how to work with negative space with shapes, textures, color, and mark making while creating collages with paper, paints, doodles, and anything else that inspires them! Students will leave this camp with multiple creations and a deeper understanding of mixed media techniques.

Have you ever seen a sculpture and wonder how artists make it? In this very hands-on camp, you will learn both basic and advanced sculpting techniques to create your very own sculptures! Exercises and ways to ignite your creativity will also be featured so you never run out of artistic ideas of what to sculpt.

This camp is perfect for students who have participated in our Ivy Arts for Kids program and want to strengthen their drawing and painting skills further and learn new techniques to express their own ideas. Students will observe demonstrations and create from life as well as the imagination using the design elements they will learn, including techniques, colors, patterns, and shapes. This camp will provide plenty of individual attention beyond demonstrations and activities, and can accommodate beginners and students who want to advance their practice.

Come explore the basic principles and secrets of the exciting world of digital 3D modeling and sculpting! If you’re interested in art, sculpting, video games, 3D printing, graphic art, or if you’re just curious about the magical world of 3D design, this camp is for you. You will learn basic computer 3D modeling, texturing, and sculpting skills utilizing professional-level, open source (free) 3D software, Blender and Nomad Sculpt. And because the software is accessible with free or advanced versions, you will be able to keep exploring and growing long after the class is over.

Movie Playground for Littles - Grades 1-3 (Rising)
For rising 1st-3rd graders, Movie Playground is an introduction and exploration of the world of moviemaking! With guidance from a professional filmmaker, campers will learn the basics of how a movie is made--from the spark of an idea all the way to showing it on the big screen. Using popular family-friendly films as inspiration for movie-themed activities, campers will gain an understanding of the fundamentals of visual storytelling, world-building, character creation, and acting. Campers will put their new skills to the test by creating their own mini-movies--all while learning the ropes of being on a movie set--in this fun, hands-on, creative environment.

For rising 1st-3rd graders, Theater Camp for Littles: The Stinky Cheese Man offers full-day, hands-on activities that encourage and promote the exploration and creation of theater arts in a fun, engaging camp environment. With a focus on teamwork and fostering imagination, campers will be guided through the fundamental beginning-to-end process of putting on a play inspired by The Stinky Cheese Man, a hilarious twist on classic fairy tales. Skill-building theater exercises, along with Stinky Cheese Man-themed improvisation games and activities, will focus on acting, voice, world building, character creation, storytelling, movement, and stage etiquette. Campers will gain self-confidence, respect for others, and a greater ability to express themselves both physically and vocally, all while making new friends along the way. For rising 4th-7th graders, Theater Camp for Kids: A Midsummer Night's Dream offers a hands-on, beginning-to-end experience of being in a play. Experienced professional teaching artists will guide campers through the process of auditioning, casting, table reads, table work, blocking and staging, rehearsing, adding technical elements (costumes, props, wigs, lights, sound), and performance. In addition, campers will learn and build upon skills in acting, voice, movement, theater etiquette, and comedic timing as they work on a kid-friendly, language-accessible version of one of the greatest comedies ever written -- William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream! Campers will also explore improvisation techniques and character creation with a focus on artistic collaboration. The week culminates in an afternoon showcase at Constellation Playhouse that gives budding young theater artists the opportunity to shine.

For rising 4th-7th graders, Musical Theater Camp for Kids: Into the Woods Jr.* offers a 2-week exploration of the art of musical theater while promoting confidence and instilling the spirit of collaboration in aspiring young performers.
Directed by Debby Jenkins, an accomplished veteran musical theater educator with expertise in music direction, campers will build skills in musicality, vocal performance, acting, movement, and stage etiquette as they are led through the beginning-to-end process of putting on a musical: casting**, table reads/table work, learning music, blocking and staging, choreography, rehearsing songs and scenes, adding technical elements (costumes, props, wigs, lights, sound, set), and finally, performing in front of an audience.
Additionally, campers will participate in fun, hands-on musical theater-themed enrichment activities to practice and reinforce the skills they will be building throughout the 2-week rehearsal process. The camp will culminate in 2 performances of Into the Woods Jr. at Constellation Playhouse.
*Stephen Sondheim’s Into the Woods Jr. covers the comedic and happy-ending Act 1 of the musical, which follows a baker and his wife as they venture into the woods to break a witch's curse by collecting magical items from familiar fairy tale characters.
**Notes on casting:
- Into the Woods does not have a chorus, so every camper will be cast in a specific role.
- Roles vary in type, size, and vocal & acting range. These factors will be considered during the casting process.
- Auditions/vocal assessments and casting will take place on the first day camp after learning material from the show.
- Campers who are interested in taking on larger roles are encouraged to arrive at camp as familiar with the show as possible.
- It is likely that not every camper will be cast in their first-choice role. Campers are encouraged to be flexible and have at least 3 roles that they are open to playing.
- Casting will not be gender-specific.

Broadway Bootcamp is BACK! For aspiring triple-threats, Broadway Bootcamp for Kids for rising 4th - 7th graders allows young performers to experience a snapshot of the professional rehearsal process. Led by a team of musical theater professionals, campers will work on material from fun, contemporary Broadway shows. The week of intensive training in acting, singing, and dancing will help budding musical theater artists develop and sharpen skills, gain confidence, and make friends along the way! For rising 4th-7th graders, Spontaneous Combustion: Improv Ignited provides the perfect playground for the creative kid with an active imagination and undeniable funny bone, as well as the more introverted kid who just needs the right environment to be inspired to come out of their shell. This immersive and hands-on comedy camp will give budding comedians the opportunity to build improvisational skills and performance technique in a safe, fun, and collaborative environment. Improv is a dynamic and enlightening art form that will help campers gain confidence; foster creativity; develop storytelling ability; enhance listening, communication, and collaboration skills; and build resilience--all while having a blast The camp will culminate in a live showcase at Constellation Playhouse, highlighting both the improv troupe and individual performers.

*Before his worldwide smash hit Wicked, Stephen Schwartz’s first Broadway musical sensation was the high-energy, hope-filled, and now-timeless Godspell. This concept musical uses the teaching of a single religion as a vehicle to explore universal themes of love, tolerance, and kindness. Through comedy, theater games, parables, and memorable songs in a wide range of musical styles, Godspell brings together a community to share the timely message of "love thy neighbor.”
**Notes on casting:

Musical Theater Playground: Neverland - Grades K-2
Musical Theater Playground: Neverland is an introduction to musical theater arts for Littles (grades K-2nd) that dives into the magical and mythical world of Neverland from the beloved and timeless musical classic, Peter Pan. Students will practice skills such as vocal expression, character-building, and movement, all while exploring the music ("Never Never Land," "I'm Flying," "Wendy," "Pirate Song," "I Won't Grow Up," "Hook's Tango") and characters of Neverland. Peter, Wendy, fairies, the Lost Boys, pirates, mermaids, the Darlings, and even a crocodile will be brought to life in this fun and interactive learning environment. Students will also implement confidence-building theater games and improvisation activities to spark creative thinking, promote active listening, and encourage self-expression.

On-Camera Puppetry for Kids (Grades 3-6) is an introduction to the art of hand puppetry in celebration of Constellation's upcoming Polkadots: The Cool Kids Musical! Students will learn the fundamentals of puppetry, including movement, weight, mouth action, lip synchronization, eye contact, breathing, and vocal and physical characterization. Learning the art of puppetry sparks creativity, builds confidence, fosters social-emotional development, promotes active listening, refines motor skills, and builds on skills in storytelling, all while having fun and making g friends along the way! With inspiration from popular series like The Muppet Show and Fraggle Rock, budding puppeteers will explore how to breath life into their puppets on camera as they create their own puppet show that will be filmed and shared for family and friends to enjoy!

Documentary Filmmaking Fundamentals - Grades 7-12
Documentary Filmmaking Fundamentals takes young, budding filmmakers through the beginning-to-end process of creating their own documentary short film. Students will learn how to research and understand a subject matter, identify a unique perspective, craft a compelling narrative, build trust with subjects, and choose a narration style, all while gaining the technical skills in camera and audio that are required to bring their subject to life on the screen. This class is ideal for students who want to use documentary filmmaking as a tool for social change, as an outlet for artistic expression, or as a platform for giving a voice to the voiceless.

acting on camera for adults: the close-up
Constellation’s Acting on Camera for Adults: The Close-Up is an on-camera, workshop-style class that focuses on the nuances of close-up screen acting through exploration of the technical distinctions between acting for the stage and acting for the screen. Students will learn techniques for creating effective on-camera close-up performances, including modifying vocal projection, gauging the size of gestures and expressions, maintaining eyeline, and understanding the camera’s ability to perceive a character’s thoughts. Classes consist of discussions, video examples, on-camera exercises, including monologue and scene work with video playback.

improv for adults: beyond beginner - Session 2
Constellation’s Improv for Adults: Beyond Beginner is a fast-paced, highly interactive workshop-style class that reinforces and builds upon improvisational skills and performance techniques. This class will focus on short-form improv, will offer an introduction to long-form improv, and is open to adults with previous improv experience (class, workshop, troupe, etc). Improv is a magical and collaborative art form that is not only fantastically fun, it boosts creativity, develops storytelling ability, enhances listening and communication skills, and builds confidence and resilience. Students will practice their skills in a safe, supportive, "Yes, and" learning environment.
Prerequisite: Previous improv experience (class, troupe, etc.).

Improv for Adults: Summer All-Play is an expanded version of Constellation's regular improv classes for improvisers of all experience levels -- from beginner to seasoned -- and will focus primarily on short-form improv. More advanced students will have the opportunity for breakout sessions to explore long-form. All improvisers will develop and build upon core improvisational techniques and principles, fostering skills in communication, collaboration, listening, adaptability, teamwork, and problem solving. Summer All-Play is a fantastically fun, welcoming, and supportive adult playground that will have you shouting, "Yes, AND!"
