Short-term Skills Training Classes

  • The Certified Clinical Medical Assisting (CCMA) program is designed to prepare students to function as professionals in multiple healthcare settings. Medical assistants with a clinical background perform various clinical tasks including assisting with the administration of medications and with minor procedures, performing an electrocardiogram (EKG), obtaining laboratory specimens for testing, educating patients, and other related tasks. Job opportunities are prevalent with physician’s offices, clinics, chiropractor’s offices, hospitals and outpatient facilities. The class includes instructor led class time over 12 weeks, plus an exam administered by the National Health career Association (NHA). In addition to facilitating entry-level clinical medical assisting related positions, this course is ideal for students interested in pursuing a future formal Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Nursing (LPN), or a Nursing (RN) program.

  • Fall 2024: Code/IT Academy - CompTIA A+

    The fall 2024 program prepares you to take the CompTIA A+ certification exam. CompTIA A+ is a certification that demonstrates a solid understanding of computer repair and maintenance. Having a CompTIA A + certification shows you know how to troubleshoot and solve problems with computer hardware and software. By obtaining this certification, you prove that you have the skills needed for jobs where you assist people with fixing their computers, setting up networks, and ensuring everything operates smoothly.


    Additionally, CompTIA A+ can be a stepping stone for those interested in a cybersecurity career. With this certification, you gain foundational knowledge that can lead to more advanced cybersecurity certifications and roles.


    Two nights each week, you’ll learn from Ivy Tech Bloomington faculty. You’ll also meet regularly one-on-one with an Ivy+ Career Link Career Strategist to ensure your success. Those who successfully complete the program will receive a voucher to cover exam costs.

  • Commercial Driving License (CDL-A) training – Bloomington

    CDL-A is a high-demand, high-wage career. Training is provided by the Center for Transportation Safety. This program includes the FMCSA required Theory training. The training consists of 170-hours, with full and half days throughout the 3-week program. Hands on training is performed with a manual transmission. Our instructor to student ratio is 1:5. CTS pass rate for the state driving test is 95%.  We provide a high level of safety focused training, to get you going on the right foot in your new career!

    Students must be 18 years or older, have a valid driver’s license, CDL permit, and DOT physical to enroll. Upon completion of the course, your tuition includes an opportunity to test at the state level and obtain your CDL-A endorsement.

  • CompTIA A+ Logo

    CompTIA A+ delivers the necessary competencies with hands-on experience in the lab for an entry-level Information Technology professional. Students will have the knowledge required to assemble components based on customer requirements, install, configure and maintain PCs and mobile devices for end users, understand the basics of networking, properly and safely diagnose, resolve and document common hardware and network issues while applying troubleshooting skills. Students will also learn the basics of virtualization, scripting, desktop imaging, and deployment.

    Recommended level of experience: At least one year of experience working with and supporting hardware/software and/or computer networks.

  • CompTIA Security + Logo

    Students will explore the field of Cyber Security/Information Assurance focusing on the technical and managerial aspects of the discipline. Students will be introduced to the basic terminology, concepts, and best practices of computer/network security and the roles and responsibilities of management/security personnel. The students will learn the technologies used and techniques involved in creating a secure computer networking environment including authentication and the types of attacks against an organization.

    Recommended level of experience: At least one year of experience working with and supporting hardware/software and/or computer networks.  Recent CompTIA A+ and/or CompTIA Network+ certifications can be substituted for work experience.

  • CPR – or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation – is an emergency lifesaving procedure performed when the heart stops beating. Immediate CPR can double or triple chances of survival after cardiac arrest.

  • In the 8-week My Cook Pathway program, participants will work for Cook Medical while earning their Indiana High School Equivalency diploma. Participants will work 28 hours per week at Cook and another 10 hours per week preparing for the ETS HiSET. After passing the HiSET and demonstrating success in a work role, graduates will be offered a full-time position at Cook.

  • Project Management Essentials (PME)

    The course is aligned with Six Sigma Global Institute’s Project Management and certification program.

    Topics covered include explaining and applying the basic terminology, tools, and techniques generally recognized as good practices by project management professionals. Important leadership concepts related to team development also will be covered.

    What You'll Learn

    1. Identify the phases of the project life cycle and explain the roles of various stakeholder groups as a project moves through each phase.
    2. State the concept and importance of a project organizational structure.
    3. Define the elements of a project charter and explain the importance of specific deliverables in successful project management.
    4. Explain task definition, WBS Work Breakdown Structure, critical path, and slack time; and relate these concepts to successful project management.
    5. Identify tools and reports that project managers use to keep projects on schedule.
    6. Discuss the importance of risk assessment in project management and identify risk mitigation and risk response strategies for different levels of risk.
    7. Explain project control techniques and apply decision making processes to handling exceptions to the project schedule.
    8. Summarize alternative approaches to traditional project management and explain when each one is appropriate.
    9. List control techniques for assuring a successful project implementation.
    10. Apply the appropriate leader behaviors to each stage of team development.

  • SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP®)

    SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) - CredlyThe SHRM-CP certification is intended for individuals that perform general HR/HR-related duties; or for currently enrolled students and individuals pursuing a career in Human Resource Management.

    Candidates for the SHRM-CP certification are not required to hold an HR title and do not need a degree or previous HR experience to apply; however, a basic working knowledge of HR practices and principles or a degree from an Academically Aligned program is recommended.

    The SHRM-CP exam is designed to assess the competency level of HR at the operational level. This level includes implementing policies, supporting day-to-day HR functions, or serving as an HR point of contact for staff and stakeholders.
