Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Program

The Class A CDL Truck Driver training program delivers fast, focused results, and high-quality truck driving jobs for licensed graduates.

Ivy Tech offers CDL training in partnership with DriveCo at three locations:

  • Evansville: Ivy Tech Community College | 3501 N First Ave, Evansville, IN
  • Huntingburg: Dubois County Fairgrounds | 4157 S St Rd 162, Huntingburg, IN
  • Tell City: Ivy Tech Community College | 1034 31st St, Tell City, IN

  • 1. You must be at least 18 years old (21 years old to drive cargo across state borders).

    2. You must pass the Department of Transportation (D.O.T.) physical and drug screen.

    3. You must have an active valid motor vehicle operator license for at least one year.

    4. You must have the ability to read, speak, and write English well enough to pass the commercial driver’s license test and to perform your job duties: converse with the general public, understand highway signs and signals, respond to official questions, and make entries on reports and records.

    5. Ability to pass the Class A CDL written exam at local BMV and obtain Class A CDL permit within the first 40-hours of class.

    • The permit exam requires an 80% pass rate. Failure to obtain the permit, within the first 40 hours of class, could result in removal from the class.
      • General Knowledge - 50 Questions
      • Air Brakes – 25 Questions
      • Combination Vehicles - 20 Questions.

  • CDL program tuition is $4,550.00, and tuition will increase to $4,995.00 starting on October 1, 2023.

    • Tuition includes: 160+ driving instruction, CDL- A state driving exam, D.O.T. physical, drug screen, and job-placement assistance.
