TRIO Upward Bound @ Ben Davis

Ivy Tech Community College – Indianapolis TRIO Upward Bound

TRIO Upward Bound is a year-round, federally funded college preparatory and access program that provides eligible Ben Davis High School students with the academic support, individualized advising, and enrichment workshops and activities needed to complete high school and enroll into postsecondary education. 

TRIO provides academic support through advising, tutoring and college preparation. Some of the tools used to prepare students for college included FAFSA support, career exploration, professional development and college tours.

TRIO programming gives students the opportunity to experience cultural actives, workshops held at Ben Davis High School and Saturday Academy held at Ivy Tech Indianapolis. There’s a monthly stipend for students enrolled in the program, field trips and transportation options. Qualifying students can also take college courses free.

Upward Bound applicants must meet at least one of the criteria below: 

  1. Family unit is at or below income guidelines

  1. Student is a potential first-generation college student
  2. Legal parents/guardians do not have a four-year college degree (bachelor's degree)
  3. At risk for academic failure
  4. Below proficient standardized math or english scores and/or GPA < 2.5

*Please note, the typical Upward Bound student holds at least a 2.5 GPA. 

 

Qualifications: 

  • Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Have a GPA of at least a 2.5
  • Have a strong desire to attend college
  • Be enrolled at Ben Davis High School (BDHS) or Ben Davis Ninth Grade Center (BDNGC)
  • Be an active participant
  • Students are required to attend 50% of all programs offered each semester
  • Attend six-week summer academy at Ivy Tech-Indianapolis
  • Maintain a 2.5 GPA
  1. Complete an application
  2. Attend an information session with a parent/guardian
  3. Complete an Intake session with UB staff during an impact period
